I am trying to find someone that has the original mp3 of Secret Heart that I made available a long while ago. I lost it during one of my many OS installs (it didn't get backed up like so many other pre Lynx One/WaveLab mastered mixes...oh well....).

I need it to compare to my new mastered version I am putting on my engineering/mastering demo. I will not be using it, just want to hear the difference to satisfy myself that the new version blows the old one away... :D

Anyway, the new version will be available for download off of my web site after about 3am Thursday. Go to
to download. 5.14 MB 192kbs mp3 file.

If anyone has the older version, please respond or email me. We can figure out a way to upload it somewhere where I can download it.

Thanks

Ed

Thanks loudnaybor for the assist. My girlfriend preferred the new mastered version over the old version. Three differences between them. New soundcard (old yamaha 16 bit crap card vs. Lynx One 24 bit), New editing software (used to use Goldwave, now use Wavelab 3.0), and now have great plugin's (GoldWave does not support third party DirectX or VST's, I have the Mastering Edition suite and QMetric now for Wavelab).

It is startling the difference between hearing the audio that used to sound so good through 16 bit converters through 24 bit converters. Filter splashing, distortion, overcompression, eq cuts that are just a little off.

I am sure glad for this Lynx One card. It is revealing the audio the way it should be heard for professional production. Too bad I don't have the tapes to remix Secret Heart with all the new toys I have bought since mixing it.

Well you went where I wouldn't even recommend to anyone that its possible to go and fixed that tiny blip without mangling the sound.
Hope the anaesthesiologist bill wasn't too high on that surgery.
And overall the mix was much nicer.
It made me like the tune a lot more the 2nd time around.

Well doc, that was one of the little things I actually did do in GoldWave. I am still using GoldWave to do fade in's and out's and spot corrections like that. Basically, I used the 5 band graphic eq and dumped plenty of midrange out of it to "tame" that hard constanent. Worked reasonably well I think. I imported the original DAT mix through the AES/EBU I/O on the soundcard and recorded it using the soundcards own recording software (a nice little .exe app the company was so nice to send me. It is glitchless and easy to use) but recorded the 16/44.1 DAT at 24/48. Sure, the audio was only 16/44, but now having it at 24/48 (on paper so to speak) I was able to really get in there and apply the eq with a certain amount of confindence that the applied eq was not going to have the typical distortion as you would with trying to apply it to 16/44 files. After I did that, I save a new version (still at 24/48) and went to town in Wavelab using the Mastering Edition plug's, as well as QMetric (which I like more and more as I use it, it has double sampling rate processing which really makes the applied eq more of less transparent to my ears). Save the new file, dithered and resampled it as a new file then converted using Audio Production Studio mp3 encoder (which is a really amazing encoder. It is getting hard to hear the difference between the 192kbs mp3's and the original 16/44 .wav files since I started using it for mp3 conversions, I totally recommend this encoder if you want the best mp3 conversions possible).

Anyway. An edit like that is totally possible now. With my old soundcard I would have got a nasty click or audible distortion at that spot if I would have applied that much eq to get rid of that annoying constanent sound. Using a mid level DAW makes me wonder what I might be able to do with a high end DAW like the Sadie..... :D Will need a few bucks to find out, so for now this will just have to do.
