Guess wot???? Everyone who helped and/or discouraged and insulted or applauded.....I did it!!!!

I just finished my first song using this blasted drum machine and i am happy. Someone here (and i hopefully will find him/her again) suggested this online multi-track recorder and i was able to use it with the little bit of "gear" that i have. SO far i cannot play the song in windows or realplayer, but i can use the program to hear the competed thing.

Ultimately i want to download my songs on a cd. Until i figure that out i'm going to keep recording which btw, is helping me get timing down pretty good. Necessity is the mother of invention i think is how the saying goes, so If anyone tells you that you need a boatload of cash to record your music, they simply have to much money.

Tootles,

Thank you Homerecording folks!

i'll be back!

What software did you say you were going to use?

When you have a "session" that contains multiple tracks, you have to "mix it down" to a stereo audio file. This is sometimes referred to as "Exporting" or "Save Mix As". There are only 800 other ways of putting it, so let us know!

Audacity

Ever heard of it? So far so good, i like it because it is simple. I can export it to windows media, but i cannot seem to send the wav. file to anyone. I do not know how to compress the file/song either, there less than a 3 minutes long but ...thats where i am at the moment.

I never post here (look at my join date), usually not much to say, but in this case....

I've wasted more time over the years waiting to get that next big ticket recording item, or new effect, etc...before recording something. I learned the hard way. Use whatever you got, whatever you can get your hands on, and just record. You'll spend more time that way, learning the craft and magic that is recording, you spend less time writing music that will be lost forever because you forgot how a bridge went, or forgot the original feel.

Never say never. (insert James Bond theme here) :D

Glad you got something working for you.

I use Audacity to record the stereo mixes from my outboard mixing console and DAT decks, so I too know the wonders and simplicity of that program.

I've never done a multitrack recording in it, but as far as I know, if you record a session with many tracks, you mix the whole session by "Exporting as ____ ". It doesn't come with an mp3 converter installed, so you can export as wav. Then, if you use iTunes, you can actually import the wav files and convert them to mp3, or burn them straight to CDs.

If you just want to convert, I used to use a program call dbpoweramp:

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

It used to be free, but now I see on the site that there is a "professional" version - I don't know if this means there are limitations on the free version or not. If so, let me know, I'll poke around for a free converter.

I use cDex as my converter.

There's a LAME MP3 plugin download on Audacity's website that enables Audacity to save as MP3.

I tinkered around with it and did the export wav file itunes medley and was able to mp3 my songs. It really comes naturally for me to sound like a complete baffoon. Now that I have that out of the way, i am anxious to share my rubbish songs with anyone who wants to hear them. I don't wanna do the myspace thing or set up an entire website for this, and i'm sure by now, you can probably guess why, i'm not a computer person. Maybe i can at least manage to send an emailed mp3. Thanks for all of your help, especially Cusebassman, i think you were the first to step up to bat.

Cheers!
