I get the juxtaposition of the drum machine and the rest but the song just sounds so much better without it.
Nice song - the panned reggae style guitar was well done - all such subtlties are lost once the rhythm track kicks.

I just thought it would fit. I really quite like it. Does it really detract that much?

The easiest way to be sure is to have you post a version without so folk can do an A B.

Coolio! I listened this morning with the kind of hyperactive electronic drums and it fit ok and sounded good, but I like this much better. All hail ray .

I actually like the version with the drums better. The second version probably works better for getting that lulling, hypnotic feel, but I prefer the first.

Sounds very much like The Postal Service. Nice work.

Well, difficult to say. First version is great with the a-la- Aphex Twin IDM drums. Second version ir more paced and relaxed. it's up to you which is the mood you want for your song.

Here's another vote for the original version. It all depends on the mood you're trying to capture -- and if the new version does it for you, then great -- but I like the frenetic feel of the original. Seems more atypical (and therefore, more original, IMHO).

That said, I like both and strikes me as pretty original either way. Reminds me a bit of They Might Be Giants...

I've downloaded the alt take - It's great to my ears.
I did & still do like the original mix - but it would be an alt. mix for me - I'd add it as a secret track OR add the frenetics in an extended fade out.
Propman - you write & perform REALLY well.

Well I love drums but I must agree with ray on this. It sounds better without the drums. They were all at cross purposes with the groove. That's not to say you couldn't bring in a breakdown with the drums, that could be cool. Nice tune

I think I like the second better. It is hard to tell. Thanks for the compare to Aphex though. That is flattering indeed.

Again I am flattered by this compare. I love TMBG. They are my favorite band at the moment, and have been for a while, so thanks.

Good suggestions. Also, thank you for the comment about me. It made me very happy. Thanks a LOT!

That is an idea too. Hmm. I may give that a try.
