Very cool, good band and good mix. Genre-bender thats for sure, very fun stuff. Good work.

True - thanks dahlink!

DavidK - Thanks! What's funny is that this song is unlike the rest of the other 12 we recorded genre-wise, but it's my favorite. They're mainly kinda power-pop. I'm gonna post another one soon.

Sounds cool. I like that it sounds different than most of the stuff I hear now a days ;) Good job!

Thanks, and I'll pass that on to the band!

I'll have a listen on monitors in the morning :)

Pretty much the same conclusion listening on monitors, although my bass cut was smaller on monitors (no surprise there!). There is a lot of sizzle goin' on in the highs, try for less sizzle and more sparkle.

Auugh! I meant to hit reply and not edit . . . ummm . . . in case you hadn't seen the original post:

Sorry I never could get my FTP script working actually things have deteriorated to the point that I can't even update my website

Anyway, listening on headphones late at night so take these observations with a grain of salt:

- Set a de-esser after the ride cymbal, with the threshold set to pretty much leave the rest of the mix alone. A shelving cut above 6kHz wouldn't hurt either.

- While you're on the multiband, tighten up the bass a bit, which once the mix is de-essed, is pretty hot.

- It's really quiet right now. Throw a compressor on it, ideally one that will help rein in the bass as an alternative to the MBC. Then a touch of limiting, and that should do.

sounds very good, reminds me a ton of some earlier against me or even radon and it sounds better than most of their stuff ever did. fantastic job, i'm surprised you're using a lot of the same gear as me. care to share the equipment list beyond what you posted in that other thread?

Can you believe I've never used MBC before? I guess I have a compelling reason to try it now!

Thanks for the notes, ms!

Thanks, man.

Drums - my Gretsch kit, his snare and cymbals
Kick - Beyer TG-X50
Snare - SM57 (I had originally put my Beyer M201 on the snare, but for this drummer, the 57 actually sounded better).
Toms - one SM57 per
OH - MXL 603s in a spaced pair config.

The mics went into my Mackie 1604 as I had not yet set-up my Octane (which is now my drum pre).

Guitar 1 - SG through Ampeg combo
Close mic - EV 757
Far mic - V67G
Each mic recorded to seperate track.

Guitar 2 - Epiphone hollow body through JCM900 combo
Close mic - Sennheiser e609s
Far mic - CAD Equitek 300 set on cardiod pattern
As with guitar 1, each mic recorded to its own track

Bass - Music Man through Sans Amp Bass DI box

All vox done with V67G

Hey, I found pics! Here's guitar amp 1:

Really just for the de-essing of the cymbals. The bass could be handled a number of ways; a regular compressor might be best.

Hey Madz,

Is there a particular reason you have the amps lifted off the floor. I always prefer to have them on the deck, especially if they can sit on a wooden floor.

Both amps were in my bedroom, and it seemed to help with bleed.

I have just listened twice Madz and the only point I can honestly bring up in regards to constructive criticism is that the ride cymbal (if indeed it is the ride) just seems to be a little too bright/ a tad on the hot side, maybe it could be cut in volume by 1 or 2 db's.

Overall Madz I think you have done a good job, I can hear everything pretty clear, the guitar solo tone is sweet, the bass is sounding (right in the pocket),
the drums are very well tracked, they sound great on my monitors!

Good stuff Madz! :)

I just had another listen Madz, it is the ride cymbal that is a tad lively!
