You guys are being way too nice to me about this. But thank you.

Al, if you want I can send you my dry tracks so you can give this a mix you like. And of course I'm not mad at you. :) I agree with you 100%. By the time we got our shit together I've been getting behind on a LOT of things. But I think you should take the song and finish it in a way that's your style, without my guitar gibberish. I mean it was fun wanking on this, don't get me wrong. But you could turn this into something great that I couldn't.

[EDIT: By the way, the vocal and bass had to be sent as (160kbit) MP3's (radical huh?). They were excluded accidently from the wave CD.]

I hadda say 2 things.

One: crawdad, this is such a great vocal performance. Did I read that it's an mp3??? Cripes. Sounds great. Kind of like an update to Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues" - sorta similar vocal phrasing and subject matter.

And Two: I LOVE the damn guitar wanking. It would be interesting to hear it with more "build up" I suppose, but I think as is, it takes the tune in a very different place than it would be otherwise.

And that's cool.

Chris

Groucho, that's a riot! When Al and I were first talking about what to do, he told me to listen to "Inner City Blues." Great tune. I think it's kinda what he was shooting for with this, which I dug a lot, but by the time I had the guitar in my hand for this, it had been a while since I was able to play anything and I just lost my mind. LOL! You and your wife can spot an influence a mile away...

As every one else has said, It was a really good sound.
I love a song with some room to groove.
As a drummer I am curious how you got that drum sound, particularly the snare.

Is it a live set? or is it memorex?(samples)

Tom

Good job guys!
Cool unison breaks.
Tom - keep enjoying those tubes! We'll enjoy listening.

First off, I think you guys are being held to a higher standard in these critiques because of your reputation in the clinic. Maybe you should be, but I think everthing sounds really good in terms of the mix. Most of the changes I think would be preference. Although I think wav files would have helped the bass and vocals. They are such important elements that I hate to see any loss there.

Nobody can deny the talent level here. This is a very solid song with excellent musicianship all the way around.

I am not a big fan of wanking, but I would give my right arm to play guitar like that. I suppose you used your right arm...so I would give my right leg. :) The guitars were very well recorded too.

Crawdad, that voice was stellar. Perfect melody, singing and phrasing for the song/style.

Great job to both of you. You are true talents.

By the way, can we get another collab with an SLuiCe bed and Crawdad adding the tasty fixins? ;) Is that asking too much?

All those in favor say Aye? :D

All I can say is WOW!!... What a frickin awesome song....

If someone would of asked me who this was from the forum my first few guesses would not have been you two...LOL

When the vocals started I was thinking who's this singing?.... Killer vocals... Crawdad is a rocker!...:)

This song has so much soul and such a rippin vibe, man it just kicks ass...

Sluice, the guitars in this are some of the best I've heard from you, I never knew you had it in you, you need to play more guitar like this in more of your stuff.. I knew you were a good guitar player but you out did yourself on this one...

The mix sounds fine to me, maybe the drums could be a bit thicker, but thats nitpicking...

On my 4th listen, this just rips man... and I like the lyrics too, very cool....

Great, great job guys!!

And I have to add, this collaboration was the one I was looking foreward to most, and it far exceded my expectations....:)

Wow, guys. This was stellar.

Listening with my wife this morning... she said, without any prompting, "Jay, you can't feel bad about this. Al's a real pro, it's not just a sideline like the rest of you guys." In other words, SHE thought this kicked the ass of anything she's heard from me...

...I totally dug it, too. Great piece of writing, though opening lines maybe borrowed a bit too much from Marvin (hint: when I catch myself doing that, I invert the lines - try it, you might like it just as much).

Vocs were a bit dry - I was think some subtle long echo? 'Course, that would give it even MORE of an Inner City Blues vibe.

I got a sense of Gary Moore on the git, too. I thought as long as you stayed in blues territory, you were fine - when you went to dorian mode, that got a little too garage wanky. For my so-called taste, anyhow - and some more structure to the solo would be helpful, but not required. I liked the tone.

The vibe I got from this overall was kind of a Stevie Winwood thing (speaking of swiping Motown lines:D ). Definitely a keeper - intelligent lyrics, a great groove, some happy shredding, and the voice of 'dad. What's not to like???

Daf (another one for the keepers)

Aye! I was actually waiting for 7/4 country....:)

Bummer. :( :)

Both great performances guys, well recorded but with indeed with some weird distortion on the vocals. I like to obtrusive guitar noodling all over. Good one, Tom. And Crawdad should've screamed louder and louder. Kinda like Blackmore/Gillian rioting on stage, LOL.

I really like the guitar noodle at 2:28. Very SLuiCe. Lovely.

Yeah just a little riffage going on. Good stuff though. Liked the instrumental bridge.

Real nice sound for the most part. Good singing Crawdad. Keep working at it and you'll hit those high notes that ol' TripleM hits. OK horseshit like that was uncalled for. Please flame my butt.

I liked the bass. I thought it sounded real sharp. I thought the arrangement of the intro was well put together.

Thought I heard some clipping at :53 or so. Some at 1:19. Some at 1:40... 3:25.

Funky blues! I like this very much! I'm at work, and can't turn it up at all, but it's got my head moving. Hope no one sees.
:p :o

I think Al's voice is perfect for this. Sluice, fabulous job. You're both great individually as well. I think that's all I can really say.

Bye guys.

Crazy nice job on this guys. Is there a Steve Winwood influence going on here? Peter Gabriel? Crawdaddy-o throws it down on the vocs, man. Guitar and vocs. Sluice I think this is the first I've heard of your stuff, need to look into your stuff more. Crawdaddy-o man I wish you could have made it out to the jamfest to show these guys what you do live. You and Lt. Bob NEED to make it out next year. But yeah, I know you are an incredibly busy guy.

Sounds really really good here on the PC speakers, will check it out again at home to get the real experience.

Very nice. Love the feel and the tune. There is however distortion all over the place.

i'm liking it............great vocal......great guitar..........

nice collab guys

Funky.

Reminds me a bit of Clapton in song vibe, touch of Gary Moore on the leads.

Cool instrumental section. Wish the drums were more dynamic / interesting, sounds like he's on quaaludes. :D j/k It is a bit too laid back for what could be played. Nice lead guitar playing!

Mix clips in a few spots here and there (2:36, 3:30, maybe it's my speakers, I don't know). Odd timing flub here and there but not 'sore thumb' calibre.

Very nice.

Great tune you guys,I expected no less!

Some wailing guitar goin on there, nice playing Tom!

Crawdads voice sounds great, different than usual though.
Further back in the mix I guess, but just right.

Sounds like a pro mix, fine work indeed.

You guys are a match made in heaven!:D

Pete

Of course I knew this would be good coming from you two, but while I was listening, I just couldn't picture this coming from either of you! A very pleasant surprise indeed. I think you guys really captured the spirit of this collab thing in that this piece would probably never have come from either of you individually. And that's really cool! Tom, I'd do anything to be able to play guitar that fluidly (anything but practice that is), and Crawdad, you've got a vocal gift beyond what comes from just practice. And I didn't really notice any of the aforementioned influences, I just heard a great new song! Very smooth. This flows real nice guys.

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

I am definitely going to cover this song.
Crawdad is the best singer in this community hands down!
I would like to hear sluice try some of crawdad's suggestions re: guitar playing on this recording.
What a GREAT song though, congrats to the both of you:D
