This sounded like fun but I was stumped for a tune so I did the only logical thing, I covered a Beatles tune. Dry as a popcorn fart as far as compression and EQ but I was wanted to try some effectless effects. Two synth parts but the rest is microphones.

How in the world did you get those effectless effects?! Like the flanging at the top. I can guess the vocal could have been panned back and forth easily enough, but you sure got me on the other stuff! This is one of my favorite Lennon songs and you did it justice. man, I'm listening to so many dry recordings, I'm starting to not like reverb anymore!

that was cool as a new whistle.. sounded like you were thumbing a takeup reel in the front end of the tune ( like in the old days) and then a wah in the background added more effect to it. Damn were you there when he cut that tune? :) nice singing dude.
Visine gets the red out...

I set up a Leslie cabinet to be fed from a bus on the mixer and miked it up with two 4033's back to two tracks and used it like an effects send/return.:D h

Are you double miking the vocals, at different distances to get an echo effect? If so, it's working, but it's inducing sort of a phase-distortion effect on them too. Very innovative techniqes to get the full sound everywhere though! It's balanced and VERY well performed!!

Cheers!

Cool-Great song. Has there been any better melody guys than John and Paul???? Sounds great-Like the synth-had me thinking it was a female voice at first. Acoustic sounds authentic-nice vocal effect-I see how you did it, wow! Like the shaker-subtle touch. Enjoyed it...Good work.

You cannot go wrong with Beatles! I still remember your cover of And I Love Her which knocked me out!

Ahhh ... this is great, especially when you have the "Phil Spector" arrangement come in right around the 1:00 or so mark.

You really kept this close to the Let It Be version...For being totally dry, this sounds excellent!

:)

I thank you sirs. Just for the record, Vocals were thru a 4047 into an HHB Radius 5 mic pre into the HD24. Acoustic guitar was the Taylor GA-XXV with a 4033 to an HHB Radius 10 to the HD. I miked the Leslie with a pair of 4033's thru the board at mix time. Strings and "Ahhs" were out of an Alesis QS-8. Electric was a Strat/Cry Baby to Peavey Bandit miked with a 57 to the HHB Radius 10 to the HD.

Nice!

You have a Leslie? I hate you!

J/K :D

I like it. Good use of "real" effects. Very true to the original "vibe" on this one.:)

Mike... cool. I expected nothing less.

Couple of vocal clams, but you know about 'em...so I'm just here to twist the knife in a little deeper, lmao.

You are one multitalented S.O.B. so I'll just continue to hate you and take petty little stabs at your vocal clams. lmao...

Seriously, nice work...you suck.

A Leslie!! ....whew! I thought maybe your voice was naturally flanged. :D
I gotta agree with Crawdad, your FX-less recording has so many effects in it and it sounds like the old recordings when engineers tried all sorts of things just to get new sounds. Al sent me a book about a bunch of the big producers and they all agreed that the easy tweak of a knob to get any effect you want has cost something in creativity 'cause you're not driven to experiment.
Very cool version Track......I think you've captured the spirit of the original. There were a couple of spots where the vocal got a little tentative and a couple of pitch things and yet somehow....it was right. I mean, when you listen to the original, it's not perfect either. So I'm impressed by how it feels like it's 30 years ago.

Chris, Bob, I can't sing at gun point, but that never stopped me from trying.:D

2.72 KBPS transfer rate....and I am on cable.....

*sigh*........

I'll be back.....later.....

much later :D

How did you do the vox man???

a Leslie huh?

very cool non efects effects.....

I always liked this tune....perhaps add the vox harmony like they did....pump up the Volume on the synth too....

cool and dry....and wet :D
very innovative man....glad I waited for it...

Great job, some very nice detailed touches in it.

Have you considered a mic with a different curve on it? There's a resonance in your voice that makes it sound kinda harsh (i should talk, with my crappy voice) - but I think it might be an EQ thing. Just that if you can fix it with a mic rather than with EQ, it would sound more natural.

Fixing my voice would take a freaking vocal cord transplant...

Anyhow, very well done, bonus points for creative Leslie work, and great to hear a wah wah used to such good effect. Also exccellent acoustic guitar sound.

Interesting sound. I agree with dafduc on the vocal sound, it does sound a little harsh / resonant in spots.

Nice job!

Hehehe, yeah! Nice choice for a tune Mike. Loved the Leslie effect, the vocs did seem a bit harsh but I didn't mind at all. I wished you could of posted this way back when "S8N" posted that "Beatles Suck" thread lol! He'd loved that :D

Very cool, you sir are the king of dry!:D
Excellent all the way around,Sir George would be proud of ya!
