Good Job!

Very good job. This was a really good colab. I agree with a kinda Alanis-ish sound to the vocals. Sounded good!

This song alone made that challenge worth posting.

I've read the other replies and don't have much to add about the mix. I would take a look at the 300-500 Hz area of the vocal. I'm going by ear here, but I think that's the area that might give this thing some space. Experiment. See what you find.

I love the harmony at: "It's like the Winte ss the leaves fall from the trees. Nice moment.

I'm not sure I like the acoustic so centered. Sharing too much of the stereo field with the lead vocal. This also puts some of the shared frequencies at the same "source" in the stereo field, like those low mids I talked about earlier.

Beautiful song. Thanks!

Joe;

The mix has been well covered so all I can say is AWESOME FOLK/ROCK TOON!!! That lady sho can sing!!! Great Collab!

Cool!

Skids & Mika added the music for the Bridge to the original compostion and it really made the tune...
I have to say that this was one of the best colabs I have ever done...all ways around..

erichenryus
Cool man, Thanks....

Analytical Man

Axe4Yahweh
Thanks man

I was hoping that Skids and Mika would chime in on this...
They have both been very busy though...in a really cool way :D
Thanks again fellas....new mix will be up by Sunday
Take it easy,
Joe

Hey this sounds great, i really feel like I'm transported to some other time some other place but i don't know where.

The vox are really exquisite, i especially liked that falsetto line that lead into a chord coda??(is that right?)

There is some kind of distortion guitar? coming out of the right. I'm not in favor of this, i think this should be removed over the verses. The vox are just totally saying this is an acoustic type thingy.

Great job and good work, ohh coming up on the break on the second listen. MMMMmmmm tasty changes.

GW!!!! YAY! Ahhh.. i just read about who was involved. Ahhh!!! man Skids u lucky stiff!!! Good job Mika

I say we give up our proprs For-mica! HAHAAHAHAHAAAHAHHA!

I've listened to this a few times and the more I play it the more I like it.....kudos to Mika on the vox! I agree with the comment about the "boxy" sound.....experimenting with a little cut anywhere from 250-900hz should help....I wanted more "air" overall but like I said....the more I listen, the more I like it:cool: ...good tune to start things off!

Thanks everyone for the compliments. My wife is an amazing talent and a great inspiration. Thanks to Joro for a great colab.

My wife and I have been out of pocket for a few days as she just gave birth to our first child - Cayden Taka.

He came about six weeks early but baby and mom are doing great. Good thing it was not too soon or this colab may have been cut short! ;) :)

Thanks again.

Gotta run. Cayden needs a diaper change! ;)

:D

I'll check back later!

Great song, love the singing.

The production had an intimate lush sound to it that was really cool. The flip side is that there wasn't a lot of definition and separation in the mix. The electric seemed to crowd the right channel a bit. I liked the piano parts..

What I liked most about this is the way it captured my attention. It had a "sound" and it went somewhere, good job all around. I really liked it.

Congrats man...I guess that's a good enough excuse for not getting here sooner ;) :D

What I want to say is this is a great song! I dug the lyrics and the vocal so much on first listen--it just sucked me right into it. The melody is nice too--takes me someplace new when I least expect it. Also, that musical climate change for the bridge is SO refreshing and so genius.

First song of HRC #4 and you've already set the bar high!

Sorry to bump this but I wanted to still throw out a few thanks to Tom for a good challenge idea and Joe for pulling our stuff together and getting it up on the site after I had to tend other things quickly. :) Also thanks to all the great comments and kudos. It was a fun process.

Plus I feel like I missed out on my own colab thread! :( :D

It's not like I was busy with anything important!;)

Now where are the rest of these colabs!? :D I expect 20 more songs up by the weekend!

:p

I thought I responded to this thread.. had to bump it..

sweet collaboration! I won't nitpick it due to the coolness of the project, but I will agree with the nitpicking that was already done! :D there were a few parts that reminded me of Alanis.. Most people don't know this, but I have every Alanis Cd.. I don't mean I downloaded them either.. I actually bought the CD's..

I could hear a shade of 'lanni in this recording as well and that is a good thing. I loved Jagged Little Pill. I haven't listened to anything of hers since, what did you think of it Sab?

Jagged was the best because just about every song was great.. the next 3 have some great moments, but there's a higher crap ratio.. the latest 'Under Rug Swept' has a great song called 'Flinch.' It's probably my new favorite of hers, but there's quite a bit of wasted space on the Cd.. the first song is kinda heavy for her so it's good, but they limited/compressed the hell out of it.. there is even a crackle right off the bat during the opening guitar riff of the very first song!

Hey folks,
First off, very very nice tune here. Nice place to start. I dig the vocs too. Nice performance, and heartfelt. I havent read the previous comments... and im guessing my nit has been covered. It seems there is too much compression going on here. The vocs are squeezed way back in the mix, and it might do them justice to let em sit a bit more up front. I think it might help open up the mix too Is the heavy git through a j-station? ....just curious. Great collab folks, and again..... GREAT song. I loved it.
gw/5 great collaboration!!

Thanks fellas...

Yeah Sam...this was a lot of fun and a good learning experience....
it's the most tracks that I have ever mixed....
most importantly, Skids and Mika are totally talented and a pleasure to work with...

Yeah Khomp man....I dig Alanis...she's cool...good vox...

Hey Guernica I am not sure which version you listened to....they both have compression on the vox though.........I am gonna have to start over from scratch some day....see how I do......ya know?
The Les Paul is played through a POD :D

Glad you liked the tunage fellas...
Thanks :D
Joe
