How's this sounding to you??

It could use some work but it's a good start. The instruments need a little more separation........in that the overall mix sounds a little bit......not too much........muddy / tonally all the same and the sound stage is too centered. Not a lot of highs and certainly not enough bottom end. I know those are general statements. The vocal seems to lack punch and definition too. First...work on the bottom / bass. Bring it up and eq it to taste. Then give your vocal more presence....may be a plug in for that. See if you can get a little more / better panning............not much......but a bit more. It makes me want to ask you what you're listening to your mix on??? As I said.....good start. Nice work.

My first impression heard the guitar being harsh. Then the vocals as well.

Sorry, my ears my be thrashed after a friggen loud concert last night but that was the first thing that I noticed.

Upper mid frequencies were just nasty to me.

Sounds like you may be abusing a 'saturation' effect.

Performance is great. It just tough to listen to.

Sorry...

nice song and performance -- there's some frequency contention between the ooohs (which are nice) and the lead vox, and sometimes between the chimy guitar (which is nice) and the lead vox, which can bury the lead vox at times. Maybe need to do some notch eq on the oohs and guitar to make it fit better?

Listened again.

I hear a bunch of distortion there. Sounds like a plugin or 5 is overloaded to me.

Great performance but it seems you are killing the mix with levels pushed too far man.

Pull everything WAY down, then move forward. Seriously.

Listened to the recent mix. I like the tune and the arrangement.

I think the ooh's need to be tighter intonation-wise and timing-wise. It sounds like it's lagging. I bet you can do it tighter. If it was me doing them again, I'd try rushing the beat slightly. The way it is now, I'm not hearing the attack on the beat, which is where it would sound better.

I want the vocal to come out more - it's not present enough for being the focus of the tune - it sounds like there's a layer of something between me and the vocal.

I don't know what you did to the guitars, but I really like the sound. Nice work or happy accident.

At about 1:50 where it starts to build up, my left headphone started to sound a bit cluttered.
Otherwise, I liked.

It definitely sounds very boomy. I'm not saying that as a good or bad thing, it's more an observation. It gives a feeling of a very large, thick drum being played (in my right ear). If that's what you were going for, then you got it right.

CRAP! Is it the vocal that sounds boomy? Perhaps the effect (delay) i used? And just in right ear?

Thanks for your time and feedback!

It's the drum in the right ear, the big, big sounding one.
Boomy was probably the wrong word since it has negative associations attached to it. I meant more "big, large". Something neutral :P
I didn't find it distracting.

LOL! Oh..ok. That was intentional, I'm sure.

If you have a second, can you A/B this mix https://soundcloud.com/user4192418/break-the-day-2 with the previous one on this thread? I think I have a better handle on the vocal delay/effect on the new one. But dammit who knows~! haha!

Thanks for your time!

Cool song man.
I didn't listen to the first linkednsong...just the remix you posted.
It sound good for the most part but it needs a little high end sizzle and the drums are way back in the mix. Turn the drums up, eq some high end frequencies in there and you will be sounding good .

Listening to the most recent mix posted. And holy shit, I think this sounds terrific. Performance is spot on man, great voice, and it sits just right as far as I can tell. Maybe bring the highest note in the "ooh" backing down a bit in volume.

Love the pacing of the song, and the drums sound great (specifically the rat-a-tat snare), although they could come up in the mix. Reminds me of Bon Iver a bit in the pace of the song, a great slow-burner.

As far as being boomy, I can't really comment on that due to my current listening environment. Sounds great in a concrete room, for what that's worth :)

Ok...(damn I'm obsessing on this song!), here is the latest. https://soundcloud.com/user4192418/break-the-day3-output-stereo-out

Better? Worse?

You guys are awesome for listening and giving great feedback.

Listening to this.

I'll write a bit as it plays

vocals come in great, sounds very professional
backing vocals nice, cute guitar melody
subtle build up in the background, tasteful
Drum sounds a lot more powerful in the right speaker now, more of the "kick" than just the "thump"

Really good
