how would you do it (tracking drums with limited # of mics/inputs)?

i tried recording drums for the first time with my new daw setup yesterday. this is how i did it - 4-piece drum-kit, one c3 mic, one akg 3700 dynamic, one akg c3000, two mxl 603s, bunch of sennheiser e604 mics. i used the 603s as overheads, placing them 3 feet apart or so over the cymbals, but also trying to get more of the toms and less of the hi-hat. the c3 (cardioid mode) went inside the kick (front head off), and i ended up using the e604 on snare instead of the akg, because it was meatier, and the akg was capturing too much harmonics, and was too thin, even too bright. maybe i could have used it and then do a little cut on the highs, as i had to do a little boost on the e604 later when i messing around with the tracks. the akg was better for a bossa tune we did, because it captured rimshots much better and clearly. maybe a two mic arrangement would be ideal. our drummer is pretty good, and i've never seen him hit a mic during recording, and we've used a md421 on snare once.
i liked the results, and overall the kit needed little eq, and only a bit of compression after the fact. i did a little low-cut on the overheads, and applied a little hi-pass. for snare i did something similar. kick was perfect from the get go. only edited out some snare bleed, and added a little compression to even out the parts that stood up too much. could have done it with volume automation, but i like compression A LOT.
i recorded everything directly into the 4 inputs of my aardvark direct pro. i have a mackie mixer, but i didn't want to mike every piece of the kit.
so i'd like to have anyone's input on what i'm doing wrong, and how would you do it with a similar setup. even though i was happy with the initial results, i know there is still a long way to go , and after all, this was my first time doing it ALL by my lone self.
anyway, i'll try to post some clips here next week so you guys can hear how i'm doing and help me out.
