How wide is wide enough?

Do any of the "Pros" use tools like Waves S1 stereo imager/ enhancer? Just wondering or is this more of a bandaid for improper panning/mic placement/ EQ? I heard the waves S1 yesterday and it definetly made things wider.

They are usefull for certain tracks and sections of songs. It just depends if the material needs it. I wouldn't use one on an entire mix but maybe a synth pad or picked stereo acoutic guitar for a cool effect.
