how wide are rackspaces?

I have found that the inside measurements of your wood should be 19 and 3/8" to accomodate standard rack rails. 19 and 1/2" is acceptable too. After that I have run into problems by going another 1/8" either way.

A cheap and sturdy wood to build racks out of is MDF board. There is also a board called "project board," which is strips of pine that have been glued together that comes in very wide solid boards. Remember to always pre-drill your holes. Screw and glue is a must too.
