I can't imagine a cardboard box and polystyrene would be sufficient to support all that weight. :unsure:

I remember the 688 came in cardboard, inside anither cardboard box. The middle was supported with an extra block of the foamy type stuff, not the hard polysterene stuff that crumbles into those little beads. The 688 was heavier and wider, so the support in the middle was enough.

Wait. The 688 is heavier than the 388? How is that even possible? It must have its own micro-gravitational field

Just two cardboard boxes with the usual style protection. I remember buying ADAT machines that came in pretty basic boxes.

A Fostex E16 weighs around 30kg but it was shipped in a standard cardboard box surrounded by shaped polystyrene.

The 688 is absolutely not heavier than a 388 - not by a long shot.

388 = 82 lbs
688 = 38 lbs

Both me and a friend had 388's and they had cardboard boxes. Maybe they shipped box in a box but not how we got them from the store. I remember how sketchy it was transporting them in the box.
