How to wire the 2-buss compressor???

Hi guys,

I've just bought a Drawmer 1968 Me stereo buss compressor to go on the overall mix and I am having trouble understanding how to wire it in.

I have a Mackie 32:8:2 and am mixing 8 tracks (from my apogee soundcard) into the stereo buss.

The problem I have is that I want to be able to have the compressor "sit" on the main fader track and be able to hear what is happening.

I also want to leave the main outputs hard wired back to my computer to record the mix down.

How could / should I wire this???

Without staring at your mixer, I'd say assign your mix to a subgroup, subgroup out to compressor, return to main mix. Do NOT assign the subgroup to the master bus.

There might be an easier way, that's off the top of my head.

Also, I'll give you $20 for the compressor ;)
 
On the Mackie, go from post fader aux send to the input of the compressor. Then the output of the compressor to aux return.

Salt and pepper to taste!

Actually I peeked at the manual and it has a main insert that is pre-master fader, that would be the way to go, it avoids a lot of aux send knob twirling or subgroup button pushing.

I'll raise my offer to $25 for the compressor!

I got impatient and wired it up in the way I though most logical and it turned out to be exactly the way mshilarious (thanks) suggested.

I have to say that I'm just not feeling the 1968 ME as it doesn't work that well with the type of music Im putting through it.

I am currently making a hard hitting Drum and bass (with vocals) track at 174bpm and it needs to sound shiny, punchy and clean. The 1968 is just not quite hitting it. The valves in the 1968 are glueing the mix a bit but the top end is lost abit (would need more EQ) and it all sounds a little flat, even with very little gain reduction. I really wanted it to make part stand out and seem clafiried but it almost sems to do the opposite, by gelling it all into a bit of a mush.

I think it would be a really good bus compressor for acoustic / jazz music that would really benefit from the warm valve feel. I do also make acoustic music also but cannot afford to buy two 2 bus compressors so I think I'm gonna have to send this baby back and save for a Smart C2!! from what I've read they are kings of punch and would be much better suited to the
music I mostly make!!!!!!!!
