howdy,
After an extensive perusual of the forums I'm still in a bit of a quandry. I'll start out with a little background. I play bass in a six piece band, guitar, bass, drums, vocal, saxamaphone, and trombone, that plays a rather eclectic set of material. I've got soundboard dat's from the clubs we've played as well as some sony stereo mic (borrowed)>dat from the garage and am looking to make something a little more polished to send to clubs for booking purposes. What I'd like to do is mic the the drums and record the drums to dat, then take that and dump it to my computer where I can lay down a bass track, through my sound card and dump this back to cd. I'll take that back to the garage and record the guitar and vocals while they listen through headphones, and do the same thing for the sax and trombone.
What I want to do is find the best way to spend a fun buck ($1000) given that I have the following equipment available:
sony d8 dat recorder
tascam cd burner
a couple of inexpensive vocal mics
behringer mixer
computer running vegas 4.0
I see two ways to go, first get a pair of high quality small diaphragm condensers like the josephson c42s and run them through the behringer mixer into the d8. Second get a pair of lower priced small condensers, like the studioprojects c4s or mxl 03's and a better mic preamp.
Or as kirk would say
"damn it Scotty, I want that third alternative"
regards
