How to record with a Teac A-2060

I had a 2050, it's almost the same as the 2060. Is a 4 heads deck, reversible and records in both directions, but the record head is the same than the playback head, so you cannot monitor the tape while recording.

It can make good recordings, I still having tapes recorded with it and sound good to me.

And as others have said, the tape wasn't threaded correctly. That deck has missing both head covers (upper and lower side). With them put in their site, it's impossible to thread the tape incorrectly.

After moving some boxes... it appeared. Unfortunatelly this unit is abandoned since 1993 when the motor dead, but for some shots it still being useful.

Here are the pics I've just shot:

Hope it helps.

And here is the correct tape path:

In the right side there's a mechanical tape detector. When the deck is in stop mode, this piece is up so that you can thread the tape easily for the upper side of the guide and for the down side of the tape detector. When the deck goes into play, RWD or FF, the tape detector tries to go down. If there's tape, it won't go down, then the transport functions work. When the tape ends, the tape detector fall and the motor stops.

Wow...thanks Tex...that's a huge compliment coming from you...I've learned from you of course. :)

Also, I'm really glad you posted as it makes me feel more comfortable with the advice I gave, and leave it to you to know about the model...I'd never heard of it. Really interesting!

I noticed that the little fingers I told him to put the tape over on the left don't look like the same element on the right...like there is a part missing. Do you know anything about that? The part that lifts the tape up into the guides on each side...on the left it is those two little fingers, but on the right it is a single round post...I wondered if a part was missing on the left keeping the tape from properly seating up into the guides...

You mean the two pressure pads ?
The left one is missing but as you said, create a new one from soft furniture pads works as long the width is the same:)

Thanks Reeler, look at that, second rare one showed up:)
And I thought you only had Pioneer's in your nice collection.

No, I like Pioneers but have more brands ;)

The Teac A-2050 was my first stereo reel to reel that my father bought in USA for me back in 1988 or 89 in a garage sale.

Garage sale, great find.
Think I know you from Yahoo's reel forum, not many with Pioneer and located in Spain, does your first name starts with a J ?:)

I thought so, welcome to Home Recording Mr J.
Been a long time since I made a visit over there, you have a nice Pioneer collection nowdays.
Hard too find a nice 901 or 909 locally here in town anymore, very popular models.

Thanks for the welcome. I've visited your site lot of times and also watch your YouTube videos ;)

About the A-2060... I've the manual for the A-2050, so if anyone needs it, I can upload the scans.

That's funny, you are everywhere :p
Just checked out a video, sweet looking decks you got.
Oh, and sorry for thread crapping eluhrmann:)

Wow, records in both directions? That's pretty sweet!

Hello all

First time poster - I just found one of these in a vacated office next door to us. Caught my interest as it looked like a briefcase with a power cord coming out of it! Is in pretty good nick with cover and everything. No tape on it.

Just wondering if it would be worth anything? Can't find a lot of info about the A-2060 anywhere....
