Hi! I am a beginner in PC-recording. My question is how to record vocal into my PC, I know using mic,I tried before but it doesn't sound nice(feeling dry and terrible). I am using normal karaoke mic and do I need any equipment to edit my recored vocal? Now I am using a mic. directly plug into my PC Sb-AWE64 sound card. And also my guitar recording is using my guitar output plug into a DI box, and plug into my PC-soundcard. However, seems that the noise is very high, should I change my sound card? Really need your advice! Thank you very much.

Yes! If your using a cheep mic, your gonna get cheep results. Same goes for your soundcard. As far as software goes, it depends on what you want to do, but there are some links floating around this site. I would suggest you spend a few hours browsing the site, you should find all your answers here.

As has been stated on this informative site, don't use the "mic-in" on your soundcard use the "line-in", even if you are using a mic. If you have any sort of 4-track or a mixer I'd suggest you plug whatever you got in to the mixer and then buy a cord that has two RCA jacks on one end(L+R out of the mixer) and a stereo 1/8 plug on the other(soundcard line-in). You can get it at Radio shack. As far as mics go I get fine results from a $40 Radio Shack "high-ball" mic. If you're learning I suggest you get items which you will not be afraid to really "use" (as opposed to buying a $400 mic and being afraid to use it) This way you can learn alot of different aspects of recording, mic placement etc..

Ld (in this house) :D

Thanks for your suggestion! By the way, if I get a good mic, will the vocal still be dry? And if yes to the above answer, what effect should I get? If I got that effect, how to plug it to my PC? Thanks.

Put a little reverb on the vocals. You can't really plug a reverb unit in to your computer. You hook your mic in to the reverb unit and then run the reverb unit's line-out in to your recorder.
If you are using a program such as Cakewalk, it may have a "Reverb" effect in the program. If so, then after you record the vocal put reverb on it.
You can use the reverb from a guitar amp (although it will make "noise")or a guitar pedal, or you can get a rack unit.
