So here's the deal. My uncle has a top-of-the-line Excelsior MidiVox III accordion and he wants me to make a recording of him playing it to give "the family". Can anyone give me a clue as to how best to record it? I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to record the midi sounds from the midi module, but what about the ACOUSTIC sounds? The accordian does appear to have built in pickups for the accoustic portion and two 1/4" phone outputs - one marked "tip" and one marked "ring" (I assume refering to how the plugs are wired). I'd like to record directly from these outputs rather than set-up my own mic (I don't know how to minimize the "clicking" sound of the keys).

I'll take any advise I can get! The manufacturer is of no use...Excelsior is in Italy and the manual, interpreted poorly into English, is only about 20 typewritten pages (does anyone even MAKE typewriters anymore?).

i'm sorry - i dont know anything about that accordion.
so i looked it up in google. very interesting product.
heres some ideas to research.
as it seems to have a midi out...using a pc thats equipped with midi inputs he could record lots of midi tracks and edit them using powertracks (pgmusic.com) that i use. he could then if he wishes having recorded the track change the track to any instrument he wishes assuming he has a midi
module with sound generating capabilities, if other sound generating is not available in the accordian. just one example , he could record the midi track and have output trumpet or grand piano or anything really.
having read about the pickups, if there is an audio output jack on the product he could also record THAT as well. it would be a normal audio track recorded. but he would need a recent computer with a sound card
capable of handling both midi and audio recording plus possibly something external for generating sounds like a roland , korg or another sound module
that generates sound from the recorded midi tracks.
maybe he will need a little mixer as well.
hope this helps.
