How to open/convert Pro Tools files to be used elsewhere (eventually Ableton)

Ok, that is weird. There is no file type. Tried to open the file. I am now stumped. I am guessing that it is some file that directs whatever DAW recorded it, to the actual audio files.

See if you can find a hidden audio folder or something.

I must say, that I am lost at this point.

If that's the case, I'm doubting that the original session was ProTools.

It's saves a little heirarchy of folders with raw wavs/aiffs in there.

I don't know what the standard is, but I remember sony vegas saved some kind of data reference file instead of raw audio.

Yeah, Cubase does as well.....

Naw, the files really do not have a file type. Even 'suck ass' Itunes couldn't open the file. Tried everything I could think of.

I guess the guy who sent the files over must have sent me the wrong things... no hidden files, no nada :'(

Time to dig out my yearbook and see if the guy still uses his old email... and still has the original files.

Thanks all for your advice and willingness to help!

Due to the file sizes, I'd guess he sent you the right files, but there's definitely something strange going on.

How many years ago are we talking here?

Also, if you take a step back from the audio folder, you should see the actual session file.
Something.PTF, Is that there?

No... but there are files there with the name of the songs we recorded and things called session file backups.

There is also a Mixes folder and a Session File Backups folder.

Again none of the files have extensions...

OK, I did some Googling, then I went to Google.com. lol Sorry, at least I think I'm funny. :)

Not sure if it will help, but I looked for finding file identification, without extension. Here is what I found for 'Cowbell':

Online TrID File Identifier

Got a file via e-mail and don't know how to open it? Downloaded a TORRENT file that won't open?
Received a document and don't know what archiver was used to compress it?
Check what TrID can tell about it!

Select file to analyze:

Not satisfied with the results? They don't seem right? You know more about this kind of file? You can help improving TrID accuracy! Click the "Help TrID" link to send some notes about the just uploaded file! Thanks!

Any feedback? Need some info? Have some new file format to suggest?

N.B.
Sending a file may take some time, and you will not get any feedback during that phase
No track is kept about who submitted what
No responsability of any kind is taken about the contents of the submitted files
Sent files could be analyzed for extracting patterns and improving the file types database
Just to be sure, don't submit confidential or reserved files. Download the standalone version instead

So this seems to be a freaky Mac thing. Files are 'Forked' up! Your turn, Mac guy! lol!

Send me the files bridge keeper. I am not afraid!

A larger file might be a better choice though. 12kb isn't big enough to really have anything going on.

This is all I got. Sent to the p@steena address.

And I would hope a cowbell file, would not be any bigger than 12KB. lol!

Yeah, apparently that's broke. I have my minions working on it. ;)

Try paulsteen underscore at hotmail dot com aroo.

Sorry dude.

What the hell? Steen address failed. Didn't I just send you files there last week?

Mac-Donalds! LOL!

lol, funny, the guy who handles all the servery crap was having bother with it.
My first question was "are you running windows?" :p

In his defence though, he wasn't :(
