how to master?

i have cool edit (adobe audition) and i cant figured out how to master without it sounding nasty (its clipping) does anyone have any ideas?

and if cool edit isnt good to use for that. what is?

Are the meters turned on and are they in the red ? Has it ever sounded good or is it your first time ? Are you in 32bit or what are some more specifics - using the fx rack,etc. ? Do the statistics show clipped samples ?

Give the folks in those forums more specifics and they'll know what to do !

What are you doing to "master" the record that's making it clip? Or, is that your question?
 
Dido ryanlilikestorock. What are you calling 'mastering'? Many people seem to think that mastering is simply making the song really loud. Mastering is much much more complicated than that.

Along with what are you doing, what are you trying to accomplish. EQ, noise reduction, de-ess, compress/limit, level maximization, fade-in/outs, song order, sound continuity...? These are some of the things done in mastering so we would need to know what you are trying to accomplish to tell you what you should do.
 
What do you mean by Mastering?

I don't think anyone is quite sure what you mean by Mastering. Do you just want to make it loud? If you are asking for tips on Mastering I'd suggest doing a search for the topic on the web and in this forum. Many things can take place in the Mastering stage and "volume correction" is just one of them.

Maybe you can be a bit clearer on what your trying to do so we get a better understanding as to what your trying to achieve.
