I have a song that I wrote, that I feel passionate about. I know who I would love to hear sing it, but how do I go about getting this song to this "famous" person?.... or is this impossible?

Unless you are working with a well respected publisher, or have representation (such as an entertainment attorney or manager) who has connections, the chance of getting a song into the hands of a specific artist are slim to none.

To rain on your parade just a little more, the likelyhood of getting in with a publisher (at least a well respected one) or your chance of getting high profile representation is also slim to none, unless you have an established body of work (meaning several songs published, placed, recorded and generating revenue).

If you beleive in your song and you feel it is well written, well recorded, has an excellant vocalist on the demo, etc - by all means try to get it published - but don't expect it to automatically get picked up by a name artist.

Yep; as much as I'd like to be encouraging, the best I can say is take a number. This is big business and the competition is fierce. You have "a song" you believe in? Nashville is teeming with people who have DOZENS of great songs that they believe in. And they're all doing their darndest to get them on the next big release.

What your asking is the equivalent of saying "I have a great arm; I want to pitch for the yankees". It can happen, but it's a lot of work.

Is this the same thing as "selling your song"? Would this same level of difficulty be there when trying to sell your song for anybody (not a particular artist) to use?

That really depends who you want to sell it too. For example, if you want to sell recorded material to a royalty-free music library for a quick $100 or so, that's pretty easy. If you want to get major label stars to record it so you can cash in on the songwriter's royalties, get in line.
