I would like to know too how someone may go about selling the beats?

Sup fam. Don't say somebody got "better" beats than you man. You the best at bein you dude. Selling beats is hard for me also(mostly because i wanna keep the good stuff for myself), but i make music for the fun of making it. Music is me! Keep makin dat heat.

Ain't seen you around in a while Tone, what's good?

As far as selling beats ammarg, there's really no set formula. Different things work for different people, just take into consideration how many other people are online trying to sell beats. I'd say try to compile as much information as you can on what they all have in common and try to do something you don't see them doing to push their beats (if that makes any sense). But the one simple thing is NETWORK!

It's who you know. To get deep in the game, you gotta be dedicated. I'll say MOST of the people who enjoy making music are somewhat still not dedicated. Not that they don't give a sh*t about their own music, it's a lot of people know music is a risky business, and it's very hard to make it, so most people don't go out and give it their all... How I started meeting people was partly luck, and partly dedication & quality of music. 99% of locals will not pay for a beat for the prices asked. 99% of midsized & up labels will pay for beats if it's a good beat & can go farther. Places like home, won't get you knowing people. Places like the internet won't get people to your doorstep. You gotta go to them. Once you have your foot in the door, it's a whole lot easier to start doing businesses with other companies that have the resources to help you and themselves out. Take Change & Mentalattica or SouthSIDE Glen for instance, they all professionals, we all grind basically to get to wherever we at. Sure making the beats & making them well is half of it, but it's the other half that you also got to worry about just as much, which is promotion of yourself. Promoting to friends & family won't get you very far, unless those friends & family members are in the industry. My first connect was like 10 years ago, I was going to school with this dude who became one of my best homeboys, and his pops ran Ruckess Entertainment over up by chicago & wisconsin area. That's when I started messing around in the studios, and doing shows, and eventually on stage with Mo World back then. Then, you start meeting people out there sometimes by accident. I was filming that lil stupid music video of mine (which sucks freakin' ass), when this lady came out of no where... she's the owner of Golden Heart Foundation/Records and books concerts for thousands of fans. Also kicking it with people like Busta Rhymes etc. That's my next move.... I already performed with her peoples to plenty of people, and next step is to meet Busta personally, and drop knowledge on the cat. Make that cat learn something from ME lol. Offer something to the table and your chances are great. Don't offer TOO much, or they'll just do it themselves.

First step for you, is to learn the music industry. If not ALL of it, gets some cats that are willing to ride with you, and all 2 or 3 of yall can do it together. One can concentrate on how the industry operates financially, and you can concentrate on learning the business part of things, the other dude, can concentrate on legal stuff. Learn all you guys can, and put that together, and you'll have some knowledge of the workings to start off somewhere, instead of being blindfolded. That's just some out there suggestions.

Good info!
I met Busta on a plane going to London about 2 years ago. He was getting so much groupie love, I didn't want to crowd him. I met NAS too! But I got a chance to holler at him though, he's cool. I remember I saw him at an after party in Boston, and something took place their involving NAS, (Which I won't mention) So when I brought up that incident, he started rolling and was like "You saw that"? He gave me a business card with his new label on it, and a pass to see Belly, this was in JFK airport about 8 years ago. I still have the card, but all the info on there has since changed........

So yeah, Networking is key, but alot of it is being at the right place at the right time, which is nothing but fate. So stay on you grind and be ready when that time comes..............

Mos Def! Mindset dont 4 get meh when I turn 18 homie aight!

We could start negotiations now tho:)

The only person i met famous at a local bar was Jam Master Jay years ago. (London Ontario). It was after a show at another rap/hip hop spot were I guess he was showing off his djing skills.

Make a long story short somehow I went into the dj booth to meet him and then he close the dj door in the booth with me in there. I guess he must have thought I worked there. I didn't.

Anyways it was pretty bad. He was doing his thing on the tables and I just sat there and didn't say a word or make any conversation.

I was also a still little green as far as making beats I had only been doing it a few years at the time. So it was pretty embrassing for me I wanted to ask about everything career wise, but I think he was too busy doing his thing.

Even now I think if I had talk to him I don't think he would have said much he didn't seem like the big talking type.

Plus I don't think any famous person that have made it will want to spend too much time with an unknown person to get to know them.

The only people I seem to talk to have less experience than me. I think that why I like coming to these boards so much. They're seems to be alot more experience catz out here trying pushing the skills to another level.

FUCK! You met Jay! Lucky bastard haha I wouldn't mind not talking, just seeing him on the decks would show more, y'knawmean? How amazing was he in person on the SLs?

Noddy, we gotta collab when I move back to DC.

O u already know my dude ;)

Well, I look at it like this. Don't make beats for money but more for the love of music and everyday passion to create something from nothing. If you think about making beats to sell and if you don't sell it you are making it for no reason, then you will never be happy.

Some artists loose the real reason they do music. It was a passion and love for the music. Not all about $$$ to start with. Wake up everyday and make beats to get better and because you want to make art which expresses your self.

That's how I still look at it. Ya, I can make money out of it. But, I want to make good quality music and if someone comes up to me and buys a beat that's all good.

If you have the passion and are happy to create everyday, that energy will come back to you and people will feel that are draw to you.

With that said. There are lots of sites you can sell beats on. Do a search on google "sell beats". But this will not give you big sells. Sale beats face to face with someone. Or vibe with an artist and make a custom beat.

Will I actually saw the show and then I saw Jam Master at another bar after the show was over it was pretty late 2am I would say. The show was amazing it's not to often that we get big names coming to London Canada at any time.

You have to go to Toronto if you want to see any big name acts in the area. Remember this was long after the "Tougher than Leather" album. I think they were just trying to make some money you know years after they peaked.

It was still amazing time to see them especially since London has had a huge rap / hip hop following for years prior. Alot people had already been waiting years for a big show like that to come NY style has a pretty big following down here er North if you live in the USA.

Well I actually don't live in London any more, but I'm closer to Toronto. I was pissed that I miss a big EMPD show. They got back together I heard and perform earlier in the week with alot of other big names acts.

You’re on one of the best sites online for exposure/sales (Soundclick)….you just have to set it up properly.

For one, you need a unique name….trying to establish yourself as Mohammed would be close to impossible. Even Mohammed Productions would be better.

If you’re interested in getting your SC page set up right, let me know and I’ll give you some pointers on that when I get home tonight.

Hey that's great. I hadn't put anything up in along time since mp3.com got sold was really pissed when all that shit went down. Now looking to set up my own website, but I constantly busy with other things like work and recording some other peeps stuff right now.

I'm only interested in production/recording/product development at this time, but I not seeking any help since there alot of projects on on ice right now. I just recently built my small mixing and tracking room and I've only recently started getting back into making beats in the last few months.

At some point though I would like to start pushing this stuff. Just not the right time right now, but thanks for the offer.

stay has giving you all some good pointers...

but the charts IMO isnt all that on soundclick..your best bet it to do toe reset..and network, network, network and did I say network...

when people see you doin collabo or have flow flows by someone using your beat..more traffic will come..you can still get the exposure without the VIP page you just have to network a bit more..

I know I one the dont offer free beats to download..but i do give free beats if i think your hot..and you hit me up sayin you want to do something to a track that hasnt been sold and in the process of being sold...and you not playin on making a profit...then i might hook that up..

also i do hook up for mixtape projects(not to many,,depending on if its money involved) it its big enought where its exposure for me as well as you and I get a copy of the project to sell or just to have for my catlalog..

you have to look at it to ways..what do you want to do with your music..give it to everyone for free or make some profit off your work....I do both..LOOL..

and im not make at all..

ok i just makin noise now..to early in the morning and im at work...i will talk on this later when im awake..
