It's who you know. To get deep in the game, you gotta be dedicated. I'll say MOST of the people who enjoy making music are somewhat still not dedicated. Not that they don't give a sh*t about their own music, it's a lot of people know music is a risky business, and it's very hard to make it, so most people don't go out and give it their all... How I started meeting people was partly luck, and partly dedication & quality of music. 99% of locals will not pay for a beat for the prices asked. 99% of midsized & up labels will pay for beats if it's a good beat & can go farther. Places like home, won't get you knowing people. Places like the internet won't get people to your doorstep. You gotta go to them. Once you have your foot in the door, it's a whole lot easier to start doing businesses with other companies that have the resources to help you and themselves out. Take Change & Mentalattica or SouthSIDE Glen for instance, they all professionals, we all grind basically to get to wherever we at. Sure making the beats & making them well is half of it, but it's the other half that you also got to worry about just as much, which is promotion of yourself. Promoting to friends & family won't get you very far, unless those friends & family members are in the industry. My first connect was like 10 years ago, I was going to school with this dude who became one of my best homeboys, and his pops ran Ruckess Entertainment over up by chicago & wisconsin area. That's when I started messing around in the studios, and doing shows, and eventually on stage with Mo World back then. Then, you start meeting people out there sometimes by accident. I was filming that lil stupid music video of mine (which sucks freakin' ass), when this lady came out of no where... she's the owner of Golden Heart Foundation/Records and books concerts for thousands of fans. Also kicking it with people like Busta Rhymes etc. That's my next move.... I already performed with her peoples to plenty of people, and next step is to meet Busta personally, and drop knowledge on the cat. Make that cat learn something from ME lol. Offer something to the table and your chances are great. Don't offer TOO much, or they'll just do it themselves.
First step for you, is to learn the music industry. If not ALL of it, gets some cats that are willing to ride with you, and all 2 or 3 of yall can do it together. One can concentrate on how the industry operates financially, and you can concentrate on learning the business part of things, the other dude, can concentrate on legal stuff. Learn all you guys can, and put that together, and you'll have some knowledge of the workings to start off somewhere, instead of being blindfolded. That's just some out there suggestions.
