Nothing mysterious in that vocal track. Great singer, good mic. Then mixed with little or no reverb, compressed to taste.

Yeah, you're probably right. I remember Harvey Gurst once saying something about adding just a touch of distortion to vocals, barely noticeable, to give them some bite.

Definitely not a dry vocal. There is a slight distortion and a lot of compression.

Agreed. That's definitely going on, too. It's really all the normal tricks for making something sound old and somewhat low-quality. Over-compressed, bandpass EQ, slightly distorted.
