A Sarcastic Statement
I really want to try THIS effect on the lead vocal track in the chorus of a song I am mixing right now and am approaching completion. Skip to 0:54:54 and listen though until 0:55:22 (watch your speakers at around 0:55:21)! Sorry about the long file, couldn't find the album version anywhere on Youtube. The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream (1993) [Full Album] - YouTube

I don't care too much about the after echoes, more just the delay/fade-in (reverse sounding) effect that starts before the actual sound source.

How to achieve this? Just wondering exactly what it's called so I can at least try and research it and if any of YOU know exactly how to achieve something close, well then please do share! :)

Thanks.

Ahh! The reverse delay effect! I like it best in this song!

Anyway. I think there is a way to get that effect easy. From what I remember, you have the track, add reverb, then reverse the track, then delete the reversed track but not the plugin and put the original file back in? Something of the sort. Sorry I can't give you a positive answer. Maybe someone else can chime in. But I'm positive you do something to reverse the plugin but have the file in its original.

Hiya
Been doing this heaps on my tracks.

Take a section of the audio and make a copy of it.
Reverse it
Add reverb directly to the track to taste (trial and error will determine best reverb to use once you have done the next steps)
Print the track with reverb
Reverse the printed reverb track.
You now get a pre-effect.

I also use it with delay.
Sweet!

Ahh okay, so you add the reverb AFTER you reverse the track.

Awesome, thanks dudes. Makes perfect sense! I would have done something like this back in the Cool Edit days (and still will if that works best!), but I wonder if maybe there is a modern plugin that sort of recreates that effect, but with certain parameters to adjust in real time like the backwards decay, delay, etc. Now THAT would be sweet! More flexibility/tweakability, rather than having to go back and redo all the steps until you find something that works.

I guess a good ol' fashioned Google search is in order. So it IS called "reverse delay", I guess? Or maybe reverse "reverse reverb"? I will report back with my findings out there.

Thanks! :)

There are modern plugins, but they never do as good a job as the process described.
