How to get that "wide full stereo" effect on vocals?

I'm talking about the lead vox. It seems that on most of the commercial Cds they have some sort of effect that I just cant dial in with Verb or Slapback or Pitch shift. Any ideas? I feels to me like some stereo room effect.
 
pros get it with great mics,pres,compressors, and reverb units.....
 
joe dirt are you using software? If you are using software or a modular digital multitrack ( with track delay ) I know one way
 
Multiple vox tracks, multiple ad libs, Killer mics and pres, proper freq. placement,
 
I'm using all software for effects (waves) My dry vocal signal sounds pretty good, I'm just having trouble dialing in the processing.
