Hi, I have been recording some guitar recently and I have been getting some unwanted noise. The microphone that I use is a Shure sm57, and I plugging that into a m-audio mobilepre usb which plugs straight into my computer. I have the mic at the spot that I want it so that I get my preferred sound as well as the amp set to the right volume, I also have my mobilepre set at max 'gain' so that I don't have to have the amp any louder. If I turn the amp or mobilepre down the noise goes away but then it is too quiet. I have also tried adjusting the audio in sony vegas pro 11 which is the software that I have been using but when I increase the volume it gets more noise. If I have it quieter and turn my speakers up it has no noise but then my speakers are turned way up which isn't ideal. How can I get rid of this noise without having it too quiet?

the noise your hearing is due to too much gain and therefore wont go away unless you turn down the gain on the interface just like you said.

How "hot" are you tracking? Common newbie error is to track as hot as possible. Turn the gain on the pre down - it's a guitar amp, use its volume - you don't actually need much.
