How to get output sound in headphones

K.. I Think im on the right path, My problem is that when recording , or playing back, I cant hear the output/music sound in my headphones , but during recording or non recording If i Talk into the microphone I can hear myself through the headphones, that is what I want, but I also want to hear the music... soundcard is the audiophile 2496

This is my setup , I have a Phonic MM1002a

Headphones - In "Phone" plug
1/4 To Rca - In "Studio Monitors(RCA)" and "CTRL RM(1/4)" plug
Rca to Rca - In "REC" plug and "Soundcard"
Rca to Rca - In "2T RTN" and "Soundcard"

I am not much familiar with 2496 and Phonic MM1002a, but still everything should work in the same basis right, Usually there are two ways to get input monitoring 1. Software monitoring 2. Hardware monitoring
I bet your soundcard's control panel has some kind of input monitoring facility all you have to do is enable that (Note : Latency may occur) Or your recording software may provide the same kind of option.
Hardware monitoring is usually done using your mixer.
Regarding your setup, as far as I guess you are using your mixer to input your music into your 2496 card, and I dont find any output from your soundcard routed to your headphone which is in the mixer right? I am a little confused about your setup, but hope yuo can figure it out in trial and errors. If you can't find a way use your old soundcard for just playback and try to monitor through that. Lets see what the other 2496 users say about this, they may give a proper solution.
 
why don't you plug your audio-card output on one of them stereo busses instead of the 2t-rtn. This goes for all of your sources use the channel-strips. Forget about the record/play RCA plugs.

(If I remember correctly; those will only route to CTRL-room outputs)

You might also consider plugging your headphone in the AUX-output (you get mono, but that's no problem during recording it'
s even better) so you can decide what signal to put on headphones and what not by changing the aux signal on the channel strips.

I while ago I had this same sort of setup using a phonic1202, worked great at that time!

Ok, I unplugged all equipment then replugged it in..

This is my setup..


Microphone - Mic Input
Headphones - Phone Input

Dual 1/4 to RCA - Into "Main"-1/4 and "Studio Monitors"-Rca
Dual RCA to RCA - Into "2T RTN" and "Soundcard"

RCA to Conversion cord - Into "REC" and "Studio Monitors"

Problem
It won't record, Im getting sound into my headphones and speakers but It wont record.

go to the thread you have in the Cakewalk forum.... I have described it there. This is all teh same problem. Watch the cross-posting!
