How to get a vocal edge like this song?

Hi all- TV on the Radio's singer always has this great edge to his voice. I'd like to get my own vocal to have an edge like his. You think it's some eq, exciter, something that's just natural?

that's mostly just his voice,
and whatever mic/preamp he is run thru

Yeah, that vocal sounds largely untreated. He's probably using a pretty good condenser mic?

Yeah he sounds that way in a lot of recordings so it probably is natural. I tried to get something like it using eq last night but it just wasn't happening. Voices are weird, you can play a note on one guitar and it sounds a lot like the same note on any guitar. But every voice is like a unique instrument. Guess I'll just wait for the waves plugin that makes me sound like Tunde Adebimpe.
