I need some basslines for some beats of mine but I'm having trouble getting the right sound. All I have is fruityloops and a keyboard is there anyway I can make some descent basslines with this?
There's a reason why the bass is considered part of a group's "rhythm section" - pay close attention to what you have your drums doing. You should be able to find a good bass line by listening to that.
Me and the kick are having personal problems right now but don't worry we'll work it out. hehe Yeah pretty much everyone else has said bass follows kick drum, just follow that as the basic rhythm and try add some fills and such to spice up the bassline.
The kick's the boom drum. The big throb at the bottom end of the percussion. It's the big insistent sound on every measure of every disco tune you ever heard. boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom etc Snare's the one that sounds a bit like a gunshot sometimes. I don't think one's more important than the other - I think the interplay between them is often the heart of rock drumming though.
The beats I'm putting together these days usually have the kick carrying the downbeat and the snare being more versatile, sometimes on the downbeat with the kick, sometimes on the upbeat, sometimes somewhere else. No reason not to do it another way, though...
