How to blend vocals with an already mixdown beat

I am new to the the mixing and edit music....I been learning from youtube videos and I need help with getting my vocals to blend in with the beat...Could someone please help me and let me know what I am doing wrong...The music program I use is Adobe Audition 3, mastering program: Izotope 4, and I use a USB AT 2020 mic..

You're trying to mix a vocal track to a pre-recorded beat track that's already been mixed, probably compressed, mastered, and possibly converted to MP3 amd recording your vocal using a USB mic direct to your laptop.

Pretty hard to know where to start with this. Normally mixing involves having all the tracks available. Hard, if not impossible,to mix something properly into something else that's already been mixed, compressed, EQ'd, converted etc... especially using a USB microphone and a laptop soundcard. Or do I have it wrong?

Or is the beat track of your own making and you have access to the unmixed tracks?
