you say you couldnt get powertracks to run.
ive never come across this before.
i'm a user and computer engr.
please tell me your computer config and sound card.
did you identify to powertracks your device drivers to use ?
because if you didnt, of course it wont run.
did you click in the track type column (ty) and identify whether you wanted to record a midi or wave audio track.
did you read the HELP ?
this is true of any recording application.
its a very simple installation.
by the way guys. anyone who thinks he needs more than 1gig of ram
is incorrect imho. due to the way programmers write audio applications.
programmers allocate and deallocate memory in small chunks.

smart bb. also be aware fyi , maybe you know this. i dont know.
there are overheads as well with using the highest capacity hard drives.
basically , to keep it simple the more stuff you stuff into a windows daw;
the more stuff the operating system has to manage.
thus over time by adding more "stuff" , oerformance may suffer in the primary task of track laying.

2x512 ddr400 dual channel P4 HT, 3.5Gz, 1Ghz FSB

If you have a dual channel mother board, and bios

and...

have two memory sticks that

same density (128,256,512 etc)
same DRAM tech (128,256,512)
same DRAM Bus width (8x 16x)
both either single sided or dual sided
same brand
same timing specs
same DDR speed

and
installed in the right order
DIMM1 and DIMM3 and or DIMM2 and DIMM4 on most mobos

than you will have dual channel and this case 2 sticks of memory are better than one

:)

I currently have 256MB on a WIN98SE, but I have sticks for 512 on order. I use Adobe Auditiion [AKA Cool Edit Pro] and it needs more than 256. I understand WIN98SE doesn't like over 512MB. Guess there's an upgrade in my future.

This may help you. I have the same setup, same program and no issues.

640k on a 10MHz 8088 running DOS 5.0 and a huge 20 meg HDD...... Oh wait .... that was my first computer. :D

Thank God I never had to try recording with that "state of the art" machine. Though I might have been able to get one or two 8bit tracks at 8kHz SR. That's Hi-Fidelity at it's finest.
