How much mic cable is too much?

What's the longest amount of mic cable that is I can use before I start to experience a noticeable amount of signal loss?? . . recording with my Tascam 424 mkII, and using a sm57 with XLR connectors, . . Thanks!
 
I've heard of and used XLR cables going up to and over 100 feet with no problems.
