Lost Cause
Well, Miles anted up so I feel honour bound. Don't think I can match him but here goes.

If anybody has the faintest idea what this is supposed to mean I'd love to hear it!

Sorry no MP3 yet - a few weeks perhaps.

All That We Think

Time won’t take away
All we found today
We kept talking ‘til the light came on
Made me wonder
Why it took so long

Words can’t say it all
How can we recall
Promises fading, trapped in a dream
Look too close
It’s like they’d never been

All that we think when we’re thinking is wrong
All that we feel and the feeling is gone
All that we think when we’re thinking is wrong
All that we know
Will only stop us moving on

All that passed us by
Tried to tell us why
There’s a shape to all this chaos here
We couldn’t see
‘Coz we stood so near

It might be about somebody being hit by a train. Maybe a subway train, maybe a commuter train. Could be a freight.

I can't tell you for sure about British copyright laws.
But since there are international treaties with all the sensible countries, I'd take a guess and say it's probaly the same.

The way I understand it is, NO.

Once you write it down, the copyright is yours.
But a lot of people I've talked to still do it because it actually helps in a court of law if your not compensated for someone else using it.
And, the way I understand it, is that you don't have a leg to stand on actually unless you register the song.

There was a large discussion on the Musemuse Songwriters board a few months back. Several professional writers and some attorneys were in on the discussion.

Best thing youi can do I think, is go ahead and use it, as it tell everyone who's song it is and leaves no doubt in anyones mind.
Then register it. That's the key.

Oh, I ment to welcome you a few days ago, so,,,
Welcome to the HR bbs.

Maybe I already did welcome you.
Hell I don't know, I've slept since then.
If anyone would know if I did it'd be Roel. He's smart.

Thanks badgas. Think you already did, in the MP3 Clinic. This is a good corner of the world.

Not too worried about anybody wanting to rip off my words, somehow.

sj you're probably wrong about the freight. Don't know. 'parently if you dream about trains it means you need help. Hmmm, on second thoughts perhaps I did............

Hi Garry

I like the lyric man...very cool but,.....
Seems to lack definition of charachters and situation....

I do understand that not all songs convey a story...so......

I suppose I will have to wait a week or two for the MP3 :D

I will look forward to hearing it.
Take it easy man.
Joe

to me it sounds like people talking about their relationship with each other and deciding to call it quits.

I like the lyrics, its kind of abstract in that you don't know what it is but it looks (or in this case sounds) cool

Axis - glad you liked the abstract thing; that's exactly what I was trying to do. Which isn't to say you're not right Joro. Just wanted to stretch some rules.

However sj got it almost right. It's all about a mild overbraking incident on the 0715 South West commuter train one rainy Wednesday morning. There was a fleeting panic, but nobody got hurt and everyone got to work on time. However a cup of coffee was tragically spilled, although luckily they managed to sponge the stain out in time and the rail company refunded the price of the coffee.

Nevertheless those who declined the trauma counselling they were offered have come in subsequent years to regret it. This song is their story.

Or is it?

Abstract is good. Give the listener something to imagine. The train incident reminds me of what Woody Allen once said.
"I knew I was going to die, and someone else's life flashed in front of me".

FYI

I thought I might be of some help on copyrights for the poor man.
If this is common knowledge please excuse the waste of time.

Sign your work and date it, if at all possible have it wittnessed place it in an envelope with a tamper proof seal if possible and mail it to your self. This gives you a poor man's copyright that could be invaluable to an artist trying to establish ownership or royalities. DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE!!!! The sealed envelope provides a date which could be the deciding factor of ownership.

One last thought, lyrics without a lead sheet are hard to evaluate and probably are not worth as much or need to worry over, but you just never know.

Keep the faith, Ozlee
