i share one with another project studio. and, we're not sure where it is right now. i'm not a fan but these mics need some choice mic preamps to really shine.

Bob, two great microphones that "only" go up to 15 kHz,
for example, would be the RCA 77 and RCA 44 ribbons.
It's the tone that's paramount...

Point taken..........no disagreement here so how about, "I prefer the tone of the EV Neodymium line of mics."
I guess I'm just bored with the 57 maybe.

I'm with Lt.Bob on this one, I have 6 EV N/DYMs, an Audix and a PL20 for dynamics. I just prefer them to the SM57. And before anyone asks, yes I have owned and used them.

I recorded an old school punk band a few years ago. I decided for aesthetic reasons to use only '57's. Kick drum and bass cab included. It sounded great. granted I have nice preamps, console, 2" etc. Lot's of in your face mid-range. Not all sissied up with low and top end. I got a bunch of them, forget how many. Sometimes I use them a lot, sometimes not at all. depends on the project.

None...... I prefer Sennheiser e835's and e845's, of which I have two of each. :D A far superior mic IMO

I'm up to ten of 'em (don't tell my wife!). Besides studio use, I've used them to mic live jazz, rock and bluegrass acts while producing the "audio for video" portion of cable TV shows in Portland Oregon. The SM-57 is one of the most dependable, durable and flexible mics available IMHO.

I have 2, mostly as reference mics for my engineering consultant. For my own uses, I prefer AKG dynamics, particularly D770 and D320B. Sometimes, though, when nothing else is working, I put one up just to help with troubleshooting.-Richie

How many here have experienced an over-zealous musician kicking down their pricey mic, then wishing it was an SM57 instead?

:D

I have a ton of 'em for live performances where they are exposed to gorillas.
