How many (insert ethnic group) does it take to record a song?

Just kidding. Seriously, how many people/musicians do you typically record with?

I suppose it depends how many people are in the band whe they show up on the doorstep. Usually 4 or 5 on average.

recording

i am working on a solo project where i play all the instruments, no sampling, i also play in a 4 peice classic rock band i record, and i play in a 5 peice county band i record

At home I'm the do it yourselfer...But my part time job is being a side musician either live or in the studio so I would say around 5 to 8 so far. :)

Wow -- from the looks of the poll, there are a lot of lonely musicians out there.

But isn't it great to be in complete control? Hehe...

I mainly record by myself, using a lot of overdubbing for vocal and instrumental harmony, but occasionally I'll get a friend to sit in who plays an instrument I cannot play. My wife sometimes adds vocals as well.

Geesh, guess I should have answered my own poll with more detail!

I am pretty much a "loner" when it comes to recording. I have a couple of friends who are usually too busy with their "real" bands to be troubled with my subterranean delusions of grandeur.

I've been working with a guy who has done a lot of karaoke, but no real songwriting whatsoever. This has proven to be a bit of a hurdle for him. Then there's another guy who is not up to par with his former self (vocals).

The short answer though is that 90% of the time, it's just me, myself, and I, and that other demon I bring into the room with me  :D

I play all the instruments but drums in my ISB (Imaginary Studio Band)... Drums are usually covered by a drum machine, but that may change in the near future.

While I am alone in my studio.. I have been getting into a few online collaborations as of late... Kinda nice being a hired gun on occasion (even if the pay is zero). Don't know how those would count in your poll.

Yea, sorry about that. I knew my poll would not be all inclusive.
Guess I should have put "other, explain".

Actually I was just curious as to how many people did the "ISB".

Up until a few days ago it was just me playing guitar, bass, vox, programming drum machine. An old friend who I hadn't seen in years moved back to town and he wants to start a band. Which I'm unsure about because I've gotten used to doing everything myself. Home recording made me a control freak*lol*
Not to mention I think I'm too old to be in a punk rock band and playing bars.

I mostly do hip-hop and I can have as many as 20 people spittin' their verses, or adlibs. Really it all depends on the style I record

20 people!!!

That presents logistic problems I had never considered...!
What do you do, rent a wharehouse?

You seem shocked, me and my crew colabbed with another set and we just flowed we use up 64 tracks just for vocals. It took place at greenhouse studios it's actually a house turned into a studio (4bedroom) so we sat in the control room and some sat in the family room (we call a lounge), and just took turns everyone had a part, no groupies, no get togethers, no drugs, alcohol, we have to have our mindz clear. The song is called "underground chaos" it's pretty long I would guess it's about 33minutes. How many do you work with?

I am the "me, myself, and I" category, with the occasional migrant wandering through.

Do you have a link to one of your songs?

Our project has 5 members, One plays guit & bass, three female vox, and me (drums). My wife and I are engineering, so we're always there and we usually just bring in whoever we need each session although the guitarist likes to be there for most of the tracking so he doesn't give up his share of "control of the production".

Yep im a me,myself and i catagory too, i play keyboard and do abit of singin. so i record by myself.

"...me and some guys from school..."

My 'studio' will have just me playing drums, keys, guitar and singing about 60% of the time, and my songwriting partner who lends her guitar playing and magical voice for about 30% of the time.
Then occasionally, I'll have a bass player or 'nother guitar player wander through, but for the most part, it's just her and I taking turns playing, singing and giving the 'rolling' finger... :D

Me and my guitar buddy!

We should have 3 songs finished before the end of the summer, I'll try to remember to get them up here.
