Modified Les Pauls!
This is a reply to David B.........I also have a modified
"Flame Top" Paul.It was the last of the '57 goldtops with
P-90 pickups, and someone had a gorgeous '59 top put on it
and added humbuckings. While I would have never done these
mods myself,I must admit this guitar is incredible! And yes,
it has that light dry wood sound.I did own an actual '59 flametop before, and while it was a great axe, this one is as good or better......which shows the cosistency of all the
Gibson stuff back then.I took the DiMarzio
PAF pickups out
and put in a pair of early patent number pickups, which are my favorites.......they have a little more top end than
PAFs.These are from about '63.Of course,the two piece top isn't centered,because goldtops were a solid color,so who
would notice?And all through a '59 Bassman......aaahh,
life is sweet,huh?
