Slow Children Playing
I built the guitar that I gig with for one of my bands. I got this idea to make a double neck, so i bought one of those squier minis and another junk guitar for parts. I kinda like the mini as is and I really love the chinese squier strat i bought after i changed out all the crap. These pretty much represent the first instrument purchases I've made in about 15 years.

The other day, i went in to the local mom and pop to buy some music stands (support the little guy) and they had a guitar hanging up on consignment that was even smaller than the squier mini. I bought the whammer jammer music stands, so i already had rung up $50 or so before I saw it. since adding the $99 micro mini guitar would put me over the $100 don't ask don't tell limit, I called my wife to ask. She says "How many guitars do you NEED?"

Well, I don't NEED any of them. I'll never be a collector guy who has a half dozen nice vintage museum pieces. I wouldn't buy a guitar unless I could gig with it. Plus, as an amateur mad scientist, I can always find something to screw my peices parts onto.

OK, just venting. I was at samash yesterday and they have a used junk guitar that I am determined to take home. I have an account, so I can just get it and mama won't know. But now I feel like an alcoholic or something because i am hiding it. But, then again, is used equipment always 15% off on sundays?

Hmmmm.....

Well, I gots me 2 electrics, 2 acoustics and a bass. I still need a real electric, as my 2 are both crap. So, I need more.

I was trying to get everyone to say "Divorce your wife now", but, at the very edge of reason, I could justify my one homemade guitar. It has a good, neutral strat rhythm sound, but still can deliver the stuff in terms of a lead tone. It also has a piezo bridge that does a pretty good acoustic guitar imitation if I run it through my fishman preamp. At least as good as Rich Little's Richard Nixon imitation. It is definitely my marrooned on a desert island/after the apocalypse guitar.

But, getting past justifying my guitars with "need", I just want the damned things. I want to keep them all out of the cases leaning against couches and coffee tables. I want them all to have dead but not rusty strings. I want them all to have output jacks that don't razz and crackle when I move around.

i only own one, but i have 3 electrics and 2 acoustics available to play.

so i'd say we need at least 5 lol

Ask your wife how many shoes she needs, and then go buy some more guitars. If your wife doesn't like shoes, replace "shoes" with any other applicable item.

I need two. One standard and one drop d
Yeah, tuning that one string, up or down a whole two notes is a real drag. :D

If I had a different guitar for every slight variation of tuning I used I'd have no room for furniture.

I get by with 4 though.

It is when I'm tone deaf, and the whole band shares one tuner

For gigging, I need as many different guitars as I have tunings. The last gig I did I used three, one standard, one drop D, and one EAEGBEb. For recording, I need a whole lot more! I own about 15 or so different guitars and still want more.

I gig with two electrics (one standard, one B), have a junker I use for writing, an acoustic, and a classical. And then at least 10 parts bodies.

All electrics are very necessary.

3. Electric, Acoustic, Classical. Still haven't gotten the classical yet, but soon I hope. :(

...and one EAEGBEb

WTF? I am jut curious about alternate tunings. For slide, i tune the high E string to D so you can find a fourth, a major third and a minor third SOMEWHERE. Other than that, i never use them. Why would you tune the D to E and the high E to Eb?

a single coil electric, and a humbucker, then a good acoustic (maybe two if u record acc alot)

how many ??

i think i have 16 ?? mostly electric...... they all have there own personality...... i dont need any more........i want more.......we all need new shiney things to keep life interesting from time to time...... the wife will get over it...... or you will end up like me........sleeping w/ guitars...... seroiusly

Oh, you'll love this one, apl. The crap guitar that I may buy is another t-60 :D

I only have 7 guitars that play right now. I have 2 half guitars in pieces.

I need to put the half guitars back together too.
