I mix work and pleasure, but on three computers... ;)

Oh yeah..forgot to mention the 1.6 machine at work used for this BBS!

1) XP 2600 + for HD recording (main one)
2) Xp 2400 + for VST instruments (Kontakt, Spectrasonics Atmosphere....etc)
3) Xp 2000 + for my graphics (work, i am a webdesigner) and for the web...
4) A Centrino Laptop for when i am out for days and still need to work on sites...

Oh.. and a Commodore Amiga 500 that reminds me of the good ol' times :D

I guess I probably fall into the nerd catagory:

1- 1.4gP4 w/512meg & 80gig (main win2k workstation)
2- AthalonXP1800 w/512meg & 20gig (RedHat Linux8 workstation)
**these two machines use digital I/O switch to share Monitor, KB & mouse**
3- 400PII w/256meg & 2x30gig (win2k server, domain controller/file server)
4- 450PII w/256meg & 8.4gig (the kids win98 net & game box)
5- 650VIAC3 w/256meg & 120gig 7200rpm HD (win 98/cakewalk PA9 machine in the garage (studio) for recording)
6- 233P1MMX w/128 meg & 20gig (redhat7.3 linux/Apache web/FTP server)
7- 233P1MMX w128meg & 20gig (backup redhat 8.0 Linux/Apache/FTP server)

And a stack of about 6 or 7 old machines ranging from 133-200mhz in the attic.

...oh ya, and my old PII450 Toshiba laptop (win2k/RedHat8 dual boot)

So I would say thats about eight that I actually use.

Just this one...

P4 2.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 2x80GB HDD, w2k. Ticks like a swiss watch. It does 2.9GHz at DDR400 with memory timings 2-5-2-2 without breaking a sweat. Havn't tried to go farther yet..

This is one of the beasts i have built....its a over clocked amd 2500+

kicking out about 2.5 ghz

Im working on another one....will get pics when its done.

I have a PI, PII, PIII and a PIV (sounds funny) , but just the PIV one with 2Ghz is in perfect condition, so planning to build one more soon when PV comes out. Hope I would be in the "More than 4 (I'm nerd, eh...?)" category next time. :)

Pentium 3 800 2x20 gig 512 mem used for music win 98
Pentium 4 3.05 512 ddr mem 2x120 gig raided 1x40 gig for back up used for video and games. win xp
486 700 hd collecting dust.

Athlon 1800+, 512MB Ram, 40/40 HD's, Echo Mia
1.3Ghz notebook, 512MB for surfing and some audio editing.
Wife's computer, 800Mhz Athlon with 256MB RAM.

Mine is an AMD Athlon 1900+ W/512 meg ram, 80 gig 7200 RPM HD W/8meg cache, audiophile 24/96 card, YSM1P monitors.
I'm working on getting another HD for audio files, and working on rebuilding my garage studio. It's gonna be a while before I get back into recording.

My son's is an AMD 950 MHZ, used mostly for games.

My daughter and wife use an AMD Celeron 1.5 gig, I think, for internet music and her business.

All 3 connected to a router and cable modem for broadband internet, and file/printer sharing.

It all works, so I leave it alone.

I have a bunch of PCs, here's the primaries:

Dell P3 850 Mhz 500MB RAM 2 9GB SCSI Drives (this is my domain controller) I get to the Internet via Satellite so this is my router running Win 2k server.

The PC on my desk:
Dual AMD XP 3000 CPUs
1 GB RAM
Adaptec Ultra 320 SCSI Controller
2 73GB Maxtor SCSI Drives
Win XP Pro
(no sound or recording gear yet, that's why I'm here)

A MIPS box 256MB Ram 20GB SCSI Drive running Linux

about 6 (some are in pieces, that's why it's "about") Celeron class PCs 128MB RAM 6GB HDDs (I got these really cheap from an office going out of business) - I let my kids use these to surf the internet

Well, once I get my new one built:

1. P4 2.4 ghz ,1gb, RAM 80gb HD (Mine for recording gaming & general use)

2. PIII 1ghz or 600 mhz (Katmai) (depending on which processor I decide to keep), 512mb, 13gb HD (My old one. Will probably use for Daughter’s games?, game server?, file server?, webserver? – haven’t quite decided yet)

3. PII 450 mhz, 512mb, 10gb HD (My wife uses for work (basically a dumb terminal) & general use. She doesn’t really need any more machine than this for now)

in college when a big purchase is made, something else has gotta go... in the case of a new pc, it's the OLD PC. hence i've got one beast that i just built for around $650 from newegg.

Athlon xp2100+ 1.73ghz (modestly overclocked to 2ghz)
Abit NF-7
WD 80gig 7200rpm 8mb buffer
Maxtor G450 dualhead video card
512mb Corsair XMS pc2700
Asus 52x CD-RW drive

got my delta 1010 yesterday and for me this setup = heaven.

I have 4 total, but 2 in that are in use.

1. An old Gateway P133 with 48mb RAM. It works, just not very fast. It stays unplugged. I'm supposed to get rid of it, but I can't seem to part with it.

2. K62-500 AMD, 128mb ram. Old DAW. It has a DFI mobo. I built it. It never worked right. Among other problems cdr/rw drives never worked. I think I burned maybe 8cds in its entire life time! It's hard to be a musician sometimes. It got stuck with WinME. I was never able to load anything newer on it. It, of course, is collecting dust next to the old Gateway.

3. Another Gateway. Celeron 700, 256mb RAM. It is used by the family. I wasn't "allowed" to build this one, due to the problems with #2. It wasn't my fault, honest! The darn thing just wouldn't... Anyway, this one runs like expected and my wife has the added comfort that if something goes wrong, she can call Gateway. Oh well!

4. This computer replaced #2. My new DAW that I built. It works like a champ. It's contents:
AMD XP1800+
PC2700 256 DDR ram
ASUS A7V333 mobo
10GB 7200 hdd - WINXP (Home) with Service pack 1 & Sonar
40GB 7200 hdd - Audio.

It does everything I ask it to do. It's going to get a RAM upgrade (256mb more) and a nice soundcard (I'm running a SB Live! for the moment). Plus, I can burn cds now at will. I feel powerful.

1. The main "does everything computer". Athlon 1900, Gigabyte mobo with VIA 333 chipset, ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500, 512 MB RAM, Win XP Pro, 3COM NIC, Audiophile 2496 audio, 120 and 80 gig hard drives, DVD & 52X CDR drives, HP scanner, HP Color inkjet, HP black & white laser, Yamaha monitor speakers, Viewsonic 19" monitor, and Behringer 802 mixer attaching VCR/cassette/Radio to both monitoring system and computer. I do almost everything on this system including recording my favorite TV (Fox Sunday night) to Video CD.

2. The living room "TV/MP3" system. P3 933 cpu, ASUS P3V4X mobo with VIA Apollo chipset, 10 and 80 gig drives, 512 MB RAM, Win 98SE, ATI All-In-Wonder video, Creative Audigy Value sound, 3 COM NIC, wireless keyboard & mouse, DVD & 52X CDR drives, and all painted black to match my stereo gear (which it is stacked with). This system holds about 43 gigs of MP3 files using Music Match to keep things organized. it's also hooked in to my fairly monsterous stereo system, 36" HDTV (which it uses as monitor), and a small FM transmitter so either cable music / CD stack / MP3s can be broadcast to all radios in the house or yard.

3. The studio beast. Recently upgraded (the old guts went to #2 above) to an Athlon 2200, Shuttle motherboard with VIA 266A chipset, Radeon video, SB Live, Gadget Labs 824 sound card (8in/8out at 24 bit 41/48 sampliing), Win 98SE, 512 megs DDR RAM, 40 / 80 / 120 gig hard drives, 32X CDR, 19" Proview monitor. Connected to all the studio gear via a Alesis Studio 32 mixer.

4. The "game Box". Athlon 1.4, MSI motherboard, 256 megs RAM, 40 & 20 gig hard drives, 16X CDR, DVD, SB Live audio, 17" Sony monitor, Radeon 7500 video, Win XP Pro. Sits in the same room with #1, used exclusivly for gaming, plus anytime I want to try installing something questionable (so I don't screw up an important system). This is also the box I take to LAN parties.

I have a few other semi-functional boxes around, and I'm building a P3/450 tower for use as a Win 2000 file server. But those four are my babies.

Oh - and I almost forgot, an old Compaq M300 laptop - P3 500, 10 gig HD, 128 ram, Win XP pro, wireless NIC, combo DVD/CDR drive. Doesn't get much use these days.

Haaa... where are the days I runned a BBS on a pstn line (33k6, 1line)... good 'ol FIDOnet ... 4 comps barely running together on LANtastic.. all DOS, one that ran on a floppy disk (no harddisk) and 8 CD-ROM drives as file server.... We were young and wanted to change the world, but then came free internet ...
(2:292/888 ;) )

Now running 2 comps, a DAW and one for internet/office.
Still have to try the VST System link though.

1) DAW: XP2200+, 1Gb@ 266MHz, Matrox G550, 60+80Gb HD, STAudio, 19" CRT + 15"TFT, Plextor 40x writer

2) Office: Athlon 1,400, 512Mb @ 266MHz, GeForce 4MX, 20+100Gb HDD, Guillemot ISIS, shares the 19" with the DAW, Creative 4x writer, DVD-ROM.

Both run XP Pro, the DAW a very trimmed version of it.

If budget would allow it I would change to a standalone HD-recorder and use the DAW as (almost) realtime FX (2ms latency) and as editing machine.

Yup only one single Mac user.

3 at the house one linux server, and one old compaq and the custom built machine.

Also 2 work horses at work. That I work from. Actually I get tired of looking at the boxes and code,
