theres all these things about it really is converters that are 20 bit, but not to be fooled cuz its really 16 bit linear or sumthin, but its advertised as 24.

sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

what bit am I recording to in teh highest mode and teh sample rate being the middle option, the highest one you can record to?

and if you feel motivated, what does all that mean about why they give 3 different bits.

Just looked at the review of the 1680 linked from the Roland site.

When you use MTP (Multitrack Pro) mode - it is 24-bit.

As to the different resolutions quoted - I couldn't say, in this case, why - where did you read that?

It's not unusual for DAWs to use more than one bit depth - for example, different recording modes may use different resolutions (e.g. on the VS2480, some modes are 16 bits, some are 24) - and also, the mixer section may well use a higher resolution for internal processing. For example, in the 2480, the internal processing is 56-bit.

Converters: 20 bit.
SPDIF digital connections in&out: 24 bit.
MTP recording mode: 24 bit.
All other recording modes (MAS, MT1, MT2 etc.): 16 bit.
