I've always used just one, but I was reading something that said that your clean sound and your dirty sound should come from different speakers. Any thoughts?
for, do you plug it directly to the board and listen to yourself only with monitors or do you run it through a cab and then mike it or do both or what?
actually, i only use about 3 of the amps at any given time. i usually run direct into the pa. this, i have found, is the best scenario for this unit. i then run out of the parallel 1/4" jack of my direct box to a roland kc100 keyboard amp. this way, i dont have a colored sound. this unit (pod xt) sounds increadable this way. i would say it 99% of what the real amps are. minus a bit of the feel. sorry to change the topic of this thread.
I got my Bj and I want a Delux Reverb to put on the other side of the stage. In the middle I want something like a low watt Mashall to leave on a low volume clean, then kick in when I need it. Thats not just fantasy, I am acually going to do that.
I take two, but not for the reasons that Firebird mentioned - I have one that's my workhorse (a Lab series L7 with 4 10"s) that does pretty much anything I ask it to, and a Princeton Reverb that I use for a TalkBox amp (which serves as a little extra brightness when I'm not using the TalkBox). I play in a classic rock cover band with this setup, and I've found that this amp does pretty much anything I ask it to in that setup...I find that I get a lot more tonal variety by switching guitars, moreso than multiple amps....and then I get guff for takin' longer than the drummer to set up.
when i had my marshall valvestate 100 halfstack i used a marshall lead 30 i had it run off th second jack of my chorus pedal it made a great sound and my distorted tones were th best i ever had plus it was kinda like a personal monitor .....got rid of both and now have a peavey classic 50 which i love but have been thinking about a two amp setup again lately
I don't know about clean and dirty coming from different speakers. That sounds like something you can test at home.
I do know my dirty and clean settings are adjusted for use in a specific speaker. If I changed the speaker for each channel, I would have to adjust the settings accordingly.
Regarding two amps, I almost always bring a backup. Since I usually play live with a PSA-1, I usually bring a SansAmp GT2 to plug in direct in case the PSA-1 poops.
I also remember when I used to use a 5150 live. The clean tone wasn't great and I had a 25W Bravo combo which had distortion I loved. Thus, I would set up the 5150 on a stack with the Bravo hidden behind it. I would plug the Bravo into the stack instead of the 5150. Cool look and a cool tone.
