Does anyone here own one?Could you post a sample?
I am curious as to how this mic sounds?Neumann u 87ai.
anybody have links to how they sound?

Turn on the radio for more than a half-hour, and your'e bound to hear one at some point.

hey, SHEPPARDB.

... i sang on a u87i (the earlier model) on a few songs. should i send you a pm, so you can go check it out?
i believe the u87ai has the same exact capsule, but they made some minor changes in the circuitry, and word is they are a little hotter (signal wise), and a bit quieter.
to my ear u87= smoooooth, a crooners wet dream, but they don't work on everyone's voice.
hope that helps - jv

...or you could do that... very true... find a classic rock station:)

The U87 is a damned versatile mic, and vocals is only one of the many things it does. It is true that only some vocalists will sound good on it, but it's a pretty good percentage. The point is, it's good on piano, strings, percussion, brass, acoustic, bells, chimes, harp, harmonica, woodwinds, sax, whatever. A bit pricey, but a really nice mic. The only reason I don't own one is I'm one of those singers that don't sound good on it, so I bought a Kiwi, which likes my voice.
My sometimes partner, Maureen "Mo" Fleming, used the U87 exclusively for he first album, "Dreamers". She's just the crooner mentioned above, and a great one. Go to her website, www.mofleming.com. There's a clip of the title song up there. That's a U87 being used for what it does best.-Richie
