How important is SPDIF?

Alright, I swear, this is my very last question. Should I really care if an interface has SPDIF or not? I really just need adat (I think), so Ive just kind of been ignoring SPDIF. Should I look for an interface with SPDIF? Ive got about 550 to spend, and the only one Ive found with both is the profire 2626, and the Audiofire pre8, which is a little more money then I would like to spend, But I am willing to if I absaluetly need to. Some of the other interfaces that have been intrueging to me are the blackbird, the pro 40, and the motu 8 pre. If it isnt that big of a deal to have it, then why have it? Id rather buy the blackbird or the 8 pre, with all I need, and keep a little more cash in my wallet. Sorry if this is a dumb question

EDIT: I guess my real question is this.. What is the advantage to having say spdif and adat on one interface, to have one or the other on the interface?

An awful lot of things use the S/PDIF interface... It certainly wouldn't hurt to have it.

Alright thanks. I am just going to buy the audiofire pre8, as it has all of that. The adat, the spdif, and the word clock. and several outputs.

S/PDIF is totally useless...until it is absolutely required.

You'll need SPDIF if you need to: use an external AD/DA converter, burn a stereo mix copy from your 'puter to an external CD burner, etc.,Good luck..
