The studio got a call Thursday night asking if we could do a session for that band that did the Van Halen covers I posted a while back.
Anyway, I guess there is some contest the local radio station is doing where 10 bands are selected out of the CD received and they play those 10 on the air and listeners vote. The winner gets to open for Bon Jovi.
So, these guys tracked the drums/bass/scratch guitar and vox when they did the VH covers. It was supposed to be no more than about 3 hours to track another guitar and redo the vocals. Then, we were to mix the two songs.
So, we started at 9am Friday morning. We finished at 4:30am Saturday morning! Sad We retracked all the guitars and a bunch of back up vocals were added. An organ part was added to one of the songs, as well as tamborine.
Anyway, 17 freakin' hours later, here they are.
Edge of a Rise I thought turned out pretty good. It had the benefit of being mixed first. Long way down, while nowhere as good of a song, and also was not played so well by the drummer had to suffer a shorter mix time. I think the guitars are killer though! I am proud of the tone I caught off his Peavey Valve King amp. One part was just the single 12" in the combo, and the other is the amp going through a Marshall 1960 cab.
I mauled them up fairly well in "mastering" at 4am! LOL
There was no time to do much editing to fix timing mistakes unfortunately.
Anyway, the client left VERY happy, and I got paid! So, it was a good birthday! Very Happy
