Chessrock, I messed around with a DMP3 at Guitar Center
and used a Shure SM57 for vocals.
The same set-up at home with the VTB-1 was clearly superior to
the DMP3, especially in the areas of detail and "air".
No the most scientific, however, it confirmed my suspicions.

Hmmm. I'm not doubting your ears at all, but it would be nice to hear them tested in the same environment. I might suspect the lower impedence setting (on the vtb1) would suit the 57 well? Did you try the 57 on the different settings?

well i record what ever my studio clients want so i will need something that get go from warm, sillky, smooth vocals/bass/ect..
.....to sceam'n loud vocals for rock. so will the blue tube work?

oh! and do drums really need to have there "own" pres? if they do, i think that i will get 2 of the blue tubes, but if they don't i will just get one.

knonuttin, yes the '57 is very sensitive to proper imepedance loading.

chessrock, I just use the 200ohm setting at home with a '57.
The "test" BTW was done with a pair of AKG 240DF's that I'm
VERY familiar with, and they blocked out any major noise from the
store.

Zeke, if you can afford it, the VTB-1 would be a "no-brainer"
then based upon your preference for mic pre flexibility.
If that's out of reach, the Aphex 107 is a pretty standard dual
mic pre for pro project studios. I doubt you'll see any Presonus
Blue Tube's in their web sites as it was designed for home use.

Best of luck on your final pick!

Chris
