I am considering selling some stuff on ebay. I was wondering how easy it is to sell stuff on ebay? I have heard some people say it is hard, while others have said it is pretty easy. I know lots of people on here have sold stuff on ebay so I was hoping someone could tell me their experiences on how easy it is to post and sell stuff. Thanks a lot!

If you know what proper phrases to put in the header (look at what most people use when you search for the same item) and you take some GOOD pictures and answer questions when people ask, AND when the product is nice and isn't a POS, its as simple as putting it up and waiting for it to sell.

Now if its a POS that no one would want (like an old 1990 20 watt Crate practice amp that is worth $30 but will cost $20 to ship and you won't take only $10 for it), then you might not have the best experience with eBay.

All right. I am not sure if I am going to be selling stuff or not, but this is good to know. Thanks a lot!

1) sign up for Paypal

2) give a fixed amount for shipping, or use the eBay calculator

3) post decent pictures

4) for small, valuable items (mics etc), sell internationally. It can be a pain, but the dollar is very cheap right now, and Europeans will snap up your gear fast.

i have had tremendous luck lately. my first was rocky-road, not the ice cream, the analogy.

but then i started selling my old sht as i got new stuff
....and much,much better
than Pawn Shops and weird-fhks coming to house.

I'm a Ebay Newbie...
I opened a bllsht $50 checking account first.
Then a Ebay and Paypal.
Then I sell PAYPAL ONLY.
Its been working great, yeah PAYPAL gets a cut...but they should its a fhkng convienience to have Credit Card capability.

use common fhkng sense, you don't ship nothing till you been paid.
you don't do anything over the email. its all for real, its cool.

That is my only problem. PayPal is now owned by ebay and eBay should should just make it a fixed cost of doing business with it instead of making it 3% of the first $1000....but not 3% of the total including my fucking shipping fee. I always hate that. Its only like a dollar a lot of times, but it pisses me off that my ship[ping is getting taxed for what I already got taxed on.

I don't get any charges on Paypal because my band's guitarist's brother is a developer for them. He took the fees off of my account!!
It is nice.

Ok thanks everybody. The guy who was going to sell me a bunch of stuff for really cheap isn't responding to my emails, so I may not have stuff to sell. :( He was going to sell me over $1000 of equitment for about $200. I didn't need all of the stuff he was selling so I was going to sell it on ebay for a profit. I hope he contacts me!

Don't get ripped off. :(

Well if I do buy it (if the guy ever responds) I will be going to meet him (he lives in the same town that I do) so I am not too worried about that.

Selling stuff on ebay is a breeze, definitely quote fixed shipping charges. For small items USPS have flat rate envelopes which are a great inexpenzive way to send stuff worldwide.

Be aware of the charges though, I have sold a lot of items in the last month and it averages out just under 10% of final value in fees. Don't let that put you off, I got very good prices for the stuff I sold and have sold stuff that you could never unload anyother way.

There is a buyer for almost anything you have, you'd be amazed that you can offload old cables, bits of computers even broken gear. I buy broken gear all the time and fix it up. I have a fankenstein laboratory here full of hybrid gear.

Watch out for paypal and ebay scam e-mails asking you to 'verify' your account - basically they steal your info an then your money.

...and if they pay with PayPal, ONLY ship to the address paypal sends to you. If they ask to ship else where, tell them no.

Then get Delivery Confirmation when you send the package. If you don't, all they have to say to PayPal is you never shipped it and PayPal will aske for the number. WHen you have nothing to send back....they refund the persons money no questions asked.

now you tell me!! doh!

maybe better go move my $ out and start anew, keep it at $50 or so?
surely they have to contact you before they agree "the buyer got ripped off"..
when the buyer is the crook?

How do you withdrawl your money after its in your PAYPAL???
I've sold like 3 things now...and don't know how to pull out the $$$.

They do contact you....they say, "where the fuck is the delivery confirmation number?"

You say, "right here, it was delivered...see...tell that scum bag to suck it."

or...

You say, "ummm a uh umm eh ugh, I didn't get one. :("

In the letter they send you asking for the number there are two fields. Both of which won't look good if you didn't buy Delivery Confirmation...

1. Enter DC number _______________
2. Enter amount to refund.

At which point its not really a matter of of choice because if you don't (and if I were you I wouldn't) they go ahead and refund them anyways if within the time limit you don't prove option #1. -and no, you cannot go pull your money out and tell them to fuck off because at this point your account is frozen.

Now there is one way around this...pull out the money the second you get the funds. Leave your PayPal account empty at all times.

You will never be able to use paypal again if you can't provide the DC, but wtf, if it saves you from getting ram-rodded in the yoohoo for $500 or so then thats the price of not getting a 55 cent confirmation number which you could have factored into the shipping cost.

But I like PayPal. I hate them, but they offer convienience at times so its nice to not be banned.

There is a tab across the top that says 'Transfer Funds' or 'Withdraw Money' I think. Then transfer to your bank account for free (which still amazes me its free). :D

Yeah Coolcat, Don't keep money in paypal - withdraw it to you bank when you receive it. If you need to make a refund you can do it on your own terms. Paypal have a shoot first ask questions later policy and are known to freeze your account and any funds in it when a complaint is made.

That being said I don't know anyone that its happened to but if you feel like freaking yourself out have a look at

http://www.paypalsucks.com/

I have read all the bad stuff about paypal but its still just too convenient, I rarely buy from people that don't accept paypal and items that don't accept paypal generally receive fewer bids and go for lower prices. Also the one and only time I got ripped off by a fake business (had a real postal address, telephone and all) paypal refunded my money in three days.

Edit: Hahaha, just found this - theres an mp3 of the guy talking to paypal :D :)
