Interesting song. Double check the tuning on your guitar. Then again, that's not what we're here to talk about is it? NO! We're talking drums.

Is there an isolated drum track that you could provide us? With your current mix, they are a little washed out which makes it hard to hear the real drum sound.

hey, if you type or copy the address into your window it works. and yeah, sorry, it really isn't that great. but, i guess, that's why i put it up here. i just need to know where to improve (and God knows that's a lot of places). we recorded the electric guitar on a 57 in the bathroom out of our mesaboogie, the harmonica, vocals, and acoustic on the marshall v67. and the bass was direct in. drums were done like follows:
v67 condenser about a foot above the bass drum and a foot behind it
57 directly over snare (like live micing)
57 about a foot from center of bass drum, with drum head off

hey, and, to do this, we had to run everything through our old peavey xr600 mixer, not exactly the best thing for recording, and that into the line in on my computer to n-track. thus, that is what we have, poor as it may be. but, if you guys don't mind, please give me some tips. god knows i need them.

ps. sorry i can't find any of the drum tracks independently buddy. they're all deleted. however, after some tips, i'll record some soon, and put them up.

Considering the way you are recording its not too bad. There's a lot of noise in there. Sounds like your compressing bad mixer noise or something. Can you get anything to use other than that Peavey, isnt that a powered mixer even?

The only suggestion I would have is to add a omni to get some room sound and a little more high end. You might even be better off recording with one mic and ditching the mixer.

yeah, i hate the mixer too. the only reason we use it though, is because it is powered, and our v67 runs off of phantom power. i didn't run compression or anything on that file yet, because when i do i just amplify the buzz. so i'm sure it is a bit too quiet. besides the buzz, what else can i do?

Holy cow. That is the strangest way I have ever heard to record a bass drum. (No offense) Try this

Take a knife and cut a whole in the bass drum head opposite the side your beater hits. Find the center of that bass drum, go a little down and a little to the right and cut a hole about as big as a CD or just a bit bigger. Then take a 57 and stick it in about 1/2 way and point it towards the beater. That should give you a better bass drum sound. For the rest use a 57 on the top of your snare. Use the 58 between your two rack toms. Too bad you don't have another v67 and you could have some overhead microphones. This setup will give you better drum sound I think.

As far as static goes, there is a lot. I wish I could tell you how to get rid of it. Anyway, sound like a good song though. Could barely make out vocals.

Id say a 57 on the kick,57 on the snare, and the v67 as an overhead...mono overhead isnt a diastrous thing......
