soundcloud compresses the file too. I'm not sure what's going on, but soundcloud always sounds bad to me so I just use dropbox.

However they process your file for presentation when you upload it, you can download the original in whatever format you posted. You can't do that with YouTube (that I am aware of)

Yeah, you can select the option to make the song downloadable. Its useful if you want the song heard in its original format.
