The high-harmony vocalist for the song we need to complete recording within a week to 10 days, has had vocal cord problems for almost two months, leaving her voice like Mr. Haney (from "Green Acres") when she talks and, when she tries to sing, like an asthmatic Marlene Dietrich. Medical science has provided no hope for voice recovery within our deadline, nor have competent healers been much more helpful. Our question: Are there recording tricks or fixes that can help patch or hide the weakness and breaking of her voice? ...or should I invest in some very, very tight undershorts to attempt singing her part?

No Speak!

The only thing you can do is make sure she doesn't speak another word. You must stop talking completely for your voice to heal itself.

What is wrong with Mr. Haney??

You must think back to the days of the Brady
Bunch. Peter's voice was cracking, so Greg came up
with "Time to Change", with the Sha na na background
provided by the girls. Alice was diggin it,
the Brady six were a success, and greg stole
the goat.
Leave her voice the way it is, and call
your tune "Pat Buttram Blues". David

U can't hide her probs really..... I'd say get someone else in there quick to do it, I know from experiance, if you voice isn't workin right, then don't sing, cause #1 it will make the prob worse, and #2 U will sound horrible anyway...

do her and yourself a favour and get someone to fill in her part, maybe one of the leads can sing it....

Q: How does One Record A Mime?

A: You use a videocamera... :)

thanx

Thanx for the help -- I feared there was no miracle to be had -- time to stop trying to achieve the impossible, eh?

Stop talking? She's my wife. . . . Another singer? She's my wife -- there are emotional as well as musical dynamics in this situation . . . "Pat Buttram Blues"? Hmmm. I could let her take off on a independent bluesy harmony -- after which she wouldn't even be able to whisper again for a long, long time. . . . a long, long, quiet, peaceful time. . . . .

Seriously, I still have time to rearrange this one-song project without a high harmony -- thanks again.

Use a mimeograph.
