I made a few recordings of my drumset: Drums with no guitar, with clean guitar, "reverby" (for lack of better terms) guitar, and distorted guitar.

How do the drums sound on their own, and how do they sound with guitar?

Overheads: SM57s
Snare: SM57
Kick: AKG D112

Drums as of Dec. 4

Drums Recently EQ'd

No EQing:
Drums no Guitar
Drums clean Guitar
Drums "reverby" Guitar
Drums distorted Guitar

Here's a picture of my setup.

I did a few recordings with two KSM44s as overheads, and they sound almost identicle to the SM57s when used as overheads.

Thanks for any tips, suggestions, opinions, comments, etc!

Sounds alright. BUT, with an SM57 on the snare, the snare should be more "powerful". Snare just seems kinda weak. Myabe that's the sound you wanted? As for the kick, with a d112, you should have more punch. Again, i don't know if you EQed everything like that, or what!

I put a small amount of EQ on the entire drum mix, but all it really did was brought up the volume some. Could the snare and kick be a tuning issue?

Are the drums recorded to individual tracks or to a stereo pair? Try adding some compression to the stereo pair (if that's what they are) or add some to the kick and snare and watch what happens.

They sound good as-is, but if you squeeze them a little, they will sound even bigger.

Good job!

Which pres did you use?
Which kit did you use?
Wich cymbals?
You should try to give a better idea of how the drums where recorded... it was a dead room? It was a small room? etc. etc.
When hearing a sample like yours, we are hearing the drummer, the drumkit, the heads, the cymbals, the room, the mics, pres, eq...
Another thing... the sound of a drum can change quite a bit depending on how hard you are hitting it. In your sample (the last one) i can hear different beat volumes... If you wanna record in a rock/pop context, try to hit the snare a little harder... Stay loose, and hit it harder! ;)
