How do you store your mics?

Granted, I only have 5 mics...but I plan on getting more. How do you guys store yours? I have two SM58's that stay in their Shure pouch with a foam pop filter over their windscreens, 1 MXL V67G that I keep in it's box with the plastic wrap still around it and that silicon stuff that keeps moisture out (I guess), a Senheiser e609s that just stays in the box it came in, and a Rode NTK that I bought of a fellow forum member that stays in a ziplock back with one of those silicon gel pack things in it.

I guess what I'm getting at is....is there a better way to store mics? Say in one central location that looks neat and tidy and provides easy access to the mics when they are needed?

my dynamics i dont take much care of...they could be anywhere...

but i store my mxl v93m and at3035 in their pouches

i don't take very good care of mics. they usually sit on the stands they're mounted to until i need to move them.

i never clean my room or wash my hair either

Im also not as careful with my dynamics...i actually have a 57 that has been missing for over a month... :P My 604's beta 52 stay on the drums. My condensors however are kept in their boxes or cases that they came in and are in a file cabinet, along with MOST of my dynamics.

I put all my mics in their pouches or cases and store them in a rubbermaid. I do on location recording so it's easily portable, pretty durable and sturdy, and somewhat waterproof. Makes sense to me.

I leave everything on the stands eccept my clip ons and my U195. The U195 is too heavy to stay in the mount and stretches the bands if you leave it in there too long. Its very nice being able to grab a stand with the right mic on it and toss in on something and not have to go dig it out of a case, and put the clip on a stand, and blah blah. Why bother. I mean, really. This is the way.

I'm actual in the middle of cutting out slots in high density foam to store my 3 piddly mics. The foam was free....and they will now sit in a "custom mic locker" ie. foam-lined shoebox. :D ;)

all my mics are stored in pelican cases. Really nice cases, with pre perforated foam, basically just pluck out the pattern of your mics. Pelican cases arent that expensive either.

Too much money spent to leave em out in the open.

Piano Bench

I padded a nice piano bench, and now it sits in the corner of my studio full o' mics.. Very Very soon, the padding will move to a nice lockable wall-mountable heavy steel box that I got.....

Sounds classy!

old suitcase with some foam from foambymail.com. Eggcrate on top and solid on bottom. I wish i could get fog to come out of it when I opened it, it looks like a movie prop.

Don;t know if it helps but....

....I collect those "Do not eat" salt packages that you get with shoes, and stuff those all around my dynamics.

(Hoping to suck up moisture off them, or from around them).

Condensor mic stays in it's foam case, away from my 2 year old son, who trys to get it all the time.

My condensers all have their own boxes, cases, whatever. The dynamic mics I use for live sound live in the Briefcase Full Of Blues.

It's a nine dollar briefcase I picked up at Staples, filled with odd bits of foam with about 12 humble mics in there and a few extra clips. Cool stuff at a gig; kinda makes up for the Tupperware speaker cases I toss around. :D

I also collect those silica paks and toss them in the briefcase just in case they might amount to something.

Wherever I happen to leave em. Usually not on the floor. . .but. :D

EXCEPT for my old shure ribbon mic. Had it stored on it's side for quite a while. Went to use it and it was sounding real. . .frappy?

On closer inspection, (as I was warned it might) the ribbon had "sagged" with gravity toward one side of the mic.

Lesson?: Store ribbon mics VERTICALLY.
